Steppenwolf Theatre Company Artistic Director Martha Lavey announced today the 2012/13 Subscription Season, including a Steppenwolf-commissioned world premiere and the work of fifteen ensemble members. The season begins in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre with David Lindsay-Abaire's Good People, directed by ensemble member K. Todd Freeman. Up next, ensemble member Anna D. Shapiro directs The Motherf**ker with the Hat by Stephen Adly Guirgis. In the Upstairs Theatre, ensemble member Austin Pendleton directs The Birthday Party by Harold Pinter. In April 2013, ensemble member Tina Landau directs the Steppenwolf-commissioned world premiere of Head of Passes by ensemble member Tarell Alvin McCraney, their first collaboration since the widely-praised The Brother/Sister Plays (2010). The season concludes with Belleville by Amy Herzog, directed by Anne Kauffmann.

Off-Broadway theater company Playwrights Horizons will hold its annual Spring Gala on Monday evening, June 11th at the event space 583 Park Avenue. Titled "The Highest Standard", the evening will celebrate its five Pulitzer Prize-winning productions and honor the creators of these memorable works for the theater. The honorees are James Lapine (Sunday in the Park with George), Bruce Norris (Clybourne Park), Stephen Sondheim (Sunday in the Park with George), Alfred Uhry (Driving Miss Daisy), Wendy Wasserstein (The Heidi Chronicles) and Doug Wright (I Am My Own Wife).

Happy Birthday, Donna Murphy! Murphy has won two Tony Awards for Best Actress in a Musical for her roles in Passion as Fosca and in The King and I as Anna Leonowens. She received three more Tony Award nominations for Best Actress in a Musical for her performances in Wonderful Town as Ruth Sherwood, LoveMusik as Lotte Lenya and The People in the Picture as Raisel/Bubbie. She is known, most recently, for her role as Mother Gothel in the animated Disney film Tangled (2010), Anij, Captain Jean-Luc Picard's love interest, in Star Trek: Insurrection (1998) and her numerous stage roles in musical theatre.

George Street Playhouse will present Twelve Angry Men March 13 through April 8. Directed by David Saint, the production will star: With David Adkins, John Bolger, Jim Bracchitta, David Canary, Scott Drummond, Gregg Edelman, Jonathan Hadary, Jonathan C. Kaplan, Andrew Nogasky, James Rebhorn, David Schramm, Lee Sellars and Michael Sirow.

Signature Theatre today announced a second extension for EDWARD ALBEE'S THE LADY FROM DUBUQUE, directed by David Esbjornson. Extended last week through April 1, the production will now play two additional weeks, through Sunday, April 15. EDWARD ALBEE's THE LADY FROM DUBUQUE is the inaugural production in The End Stage Theatre at the company's new home The Pershing Square Signature Center. The production opened on Monday, March 5. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced its 2012-2013 theater season. Reaching hundreds of thousands of audience members annually, the theater season features a new Kennedy Center produced production of Ferenc Molnár's The Guardsman; touring productions of The Book of Mormon, War Horse, Anything Goes, Irving Berlin's White Christmas, Jekyll & Hyde, and Million Dollar Quartet; and five top-notch Theater Productions from Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden as part of Nordic Cool 2013. The story of the controversial 'Mad Monk,' Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin is now the subject of the new rock musical Brother Russia, which makes its world premiere at the Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre. The new musical features Music by Dana Rowe and Book and Lyrics by John Dempsey - the award-winning creators behind The Fix (1998) and The Witches of Eastwick (2007). Directed by Signature's Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer, the production will star John Lescault (Signature's Art and The Lieutenant of Inishmore) as the infamous and enigmatic Rasputin, Natascia Diaz (Kiss of the Spider Woman at Signature, and Savage in Limbo at MetroStage), Doug Kreeger (Signature's The Visit), Amy McWilliams (Signature's The Witches of Eastwick and Urinetown), and Tracy Lynn Olivera (Les Misérables and Merrily We Roll Along at Signature). Erin Driscoll, Stephen Gregory Smith, Rachel Zampelli, Russell Sunday, Kevin McAllister, and Christopher Mueller round out the cast for this world premiere event. The marquees of Disney's New Amsterdam Theatre, home of the musical Mary Poppins, along with the Minskoff and Nederlander Theatres, which house Disney Theatrical Productions' The Lion King and Newsies, will dim this evening at 7:01 in memory of legendary songwriter Robert Sherman, who died yesterday in London at 86.

Disney songwriter Robert B. Sherman died yesterday, March 5, in London. The Academy and Grammy Award winner, who is honoured along with his brother Richard Sherman with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, was 86. Robert A. Iger, President and CEO, The Walt Disney Company released the following statement on his passing:

BENJAMIN WALKER (star of the upcoming 20th Century Fox action film ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER) will be back on stage Tuesday, March 6th at 9:30pm for the return FIND THE FUNNY- which he created and hosts.

La Jolla Playhouse just announced that The Nightingale, by the creative team behind the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening: Steven Sater (book and lyrics) and Duncan Sheik (music), directed by Tony Award nominee Moises Kaufman (33 Variations), will be part of the Playhouse's 2012/2013 season. Running in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre July 10 - August 5, 2012, The Nightingale will be presented as part of the Playhouse's acclaimed Page To Stage Play Development Program.

The Public Theater will begin performances on Wednesday, March 14 for the return of GATZ, the critically lauded theatrical adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. Created and performed by Elevator Repair Service, this award-winning theatrical event, directed by John Collins and featuring Scott Shepherd as Nick, will run through Sunday, May 6 for 28 performances only in the Newman Theater. According to published reports, NBC's SMASH, which aired its fourth episode last night, got a slight ratings boost with almost 6.9 million viewers. Last week's audience was 4% smaller at 6.5 million viewers. The series premiere earned the show a whopping 11.5 million tuning in on February 6.
