Happy Birthday, Stephen Schwartz! In a career spanning over four decades, Schwartz has written such hit musicals as Godspell (1971), Pippin (1972) and Wicked (2003). He has also contributed lyrics for a number of successful films, including Pocahontas (1995), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), The Prince of Egypt (1998; music and lyrics) and Enchanted (2007). Schwartz has won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Lyrics, three Grammy Awards, three Academy Awards and has been nominated for six Tony Awards.

Last night, Jim Caruso's Cast Party made it's debut at The Crest Theatre in Delray Beach, Florida for the first of two nights. The ‘extreme open mic,' hosted by Jim Caruso and musical director Billy Stritch, celebrated and showcased local Florida talent, including singers Chloe Dolandis, Zoralis Calle Perez, Lily Forte, Sarah Dreben, guitarist Billy Rogan, pianist Joey Lieber and impressionist Sharon Daniels.

The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess is now on Broadway with a cast led by four-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald (Ragtime, 'Private Practice') as Bess, Drama Desk nominee Norm Lewis (Les Misérables, Sondheim on Sondheim) as Porgy and two-time Tony nominee David Alan Grier (Race, 'In Living Color') as Sporting Life. Three time Oscar winner and four time Grammy award-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz joins the 275 singers of San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus in two performances of his celebrated Broadway musical hits and film tunes in Enchantingly Wicked March 20 and 21 at Davies Symphony Hall (Tickets on sale through City Box Office starting February 1). Anchoring the program is 'Testimony', Schwartz' world premiere composed specifically for SFGMC. Schwartz has worked closely with Dan Savage, the founder of the 'It Gets Better Project' in selecting texts from those who have shared their lives' journeys and weaving those into the resulting breathtakingly poignant work. Two-time Tony Award-winner Matthew Broderick and three-time Tony Award nominee Kelli O'Hara in NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT, featuring music and lyrics by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin, will begin performances on Broadway on Thursday, March 29, 2012 and officially open on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the Imperial Theatre (249 West 45th Street). The production is directed & choreographed by three-time Tony Award-winner Kathleen Marshall and features a book by two-time Tony Award-winner Joe DiPietro. Goodspeed Musicals just announced that Tony Award-winner Kristin Chenoweth, who appeared as Annie Draper in Goodspeed's production of Strike Up The Band, will be the latest recipient of The Goodspeed Award for Outstanding Contribution to Musical Theatre at its Gala on August 11, 2012. Previous honorees include Julie Andrews, Martin Charnin, Ira Gershwin, Jerry Herman, William Ivey Long, Thomas Meehan, Michael P. Price, Gerald Schoenfeld, Stephen Schwartz, Susan Stroman, Charles Strouse, Tommy Tune and Paul Williams.

The Town Hall's Broadway by the Year's® 12th Season continues with The Broadway Musicals of 1950 on Monday, March 19th at 8PM. 1950 was a year that brought us famous shows by musical theater icons including Frank Loesser, (Guys and Dolls), Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse (Call Me Madam), and Cole Porter (Out of This World), among others. Manhattan Theatre Club is presenting the limited engagement of THE COLUMNIST by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner David Auburn beginning Wednesday, April 4 and opening Wednesday, April 25 at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan.

Lincoln Center Theater has announced two productions that will open this fall: a 75th Anniversary production of the Clifford Odets' classic GOLDEN BOY, to be directed by Bartlett Sher beginning performances Thursday November 8 and opening Monday, December 3 at a Broadway theatre to be announced; and the New York premiere of VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE a new play by Christopher Durang, to be directed by Nicholas Martin, beginning performances Thursday, October 25 and opening Monday, November 12 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater (150 West 65 Street).

Universal Pictures Stage Productions, in association with producers Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel and James L. Nederlander, today announced that they are developing a musical based on the classic 1978 Universal comedy, National Lampoon's Animal House. Matty Simmons is Executive Producer.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Broadway favorite Kristin Chenoweth's new ABC show, GCB, premiered last night with a 2.2 rating. The 7.6 million viewers topped PanAm's latest 1.2 rating, which previously held the timeslot.

According to Deadline.com, Tony nominee David Harbour has joined the cast of NBC's 'MIdnight Sun' pilot, opposite Julia Stiles. The series is about 'the mysterious disappearance of Midnight Sun, a group living on a cult-like commune in Alaska.' Habour will play Ethan Davis.
