Jeremy Jordan, who stars as Jack Kelly in Newsies on Broadway, satt down with the co-hosts of the ABC daytime television program 'The View' this morning, March 13th. This marked Jordan's second appearance on 'The View;' he and the cast of Newsies debuted two songs from the show while it was at Paper Mill Playhouse, an appearance that was instrumental in the show's eventual Broadway transfer. According to published reports, NBC's SMASH, which aired its fourth episode last night, got a slight ratings boost with almost 6.9 million viewers. Last week's audience was 4% smaller at 6.5 million viewers. The series premiere earned the show a whopping 11.5 million tuning in on February 6.

According to Deadline.com, Broadway veteran Patti Murin has signed on to lead a still untitled CBS pilot from Louis CK and Spike Feresten. As descried by Deadline the comedy series is about 'an ensemble of young people trying to achieve their creative dreams in these tough financial times.' Murin will play a clothing designer.

Today in 1947, Brigadoon opened at the Ziegfeld Theatre, where it ran for 581 performances. Brigadoon is a musical with a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. It tells the story of a mysterious Scottish village that appears for only one day every hundred years, though to the villagers, the passing of each century seems no longer than one night. Brigadoon then received a West End production opening in 1949 that ran for 685 performances, and many revivals followed. A 1954 film version starred Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse. A 1966 television version starred Robert Goulet and Peter Falk.

Denise Whelan is set to lead Fulton Theatre's production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard, which runs March 14-April 1, 2012. Directed by Marc Robin, the show wil also feature Curt Dale Clark, David Girolmo, Bruce Rebold, Randall Frizado, Joel Hatch, Charis Leos, Amanda Rose, Eric Stephenson, Katie Sina and Will Ray.

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director William Russo present the New York premiere of An Iliad, by Denis O'Hare and Lisa Peterson, based on Homer's Iliad translated by Robert Fagles, directed by Ms. Peterson. Performances began on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at NYTW, 79 East 4 Street, between Bowery and Second Avenue. Mr. O'Hare and Stephen Spinella will alternate performances of the play. The Actors Fund, the nationwide human services organization that helps all professionals in performing arts and entertainment, just announced the Elaine Stritch will perform at the 17th edition of Nothing Like a Dame, a benefit for the Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative (PNWHI). This highly anticipated event will take place Monday, March 26th at 7:30 at The Gerald Lynch Theatre, 524 West 59th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues, New York, NY 10019.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider is currently working on a theatre-themed album titled 'Dee Does Broadway.' The first single is set to arrive in early April with the full album release set for May 2012.

Ford's Theatre Society just opened the Tony-winning musical 1776, directed by Peter Flynn, on March 9. The production runs though May 19, 2012. With 'quick-witted dialogue and a playful score,' 1776 dramatizes the impassioned debates of Philadelphia's Second Continental Congress and the writing of the Declaration of Independence. MCC THEATER has announced fabulous additions to their all-star line-up for the company's highly anticipated annual gala.
