Artaud's JET OF BLOOD Hits NY FRIGID Festival Starting 2/25

Frigid New York presents a No. 11 Productions production of 'Jet of Blood or the Ball of Glass' writte by Antonin Artaud. The show is translated by Cariad Shepherd, composed by Nat Osborn, and directed by Ryan Emmons.Performances will take place on February 25 at 6pm, February 27 at 9pm, February 28 at 1pm, March 7 at 11:30pm, and March 8 at 7pm at UNDER St. Marks (94th St. Marks Place between 1st Avenue and Avenue A). Verdi's Popular Masterpiece RIGOLETTO Returns To The Met

Verdi's popular masterpiece Rigoletto returns to the repertory on January 24 with baritone Roberto Frontali making his Met role debut as the hunchback jester and conductor Riccardo Frizza in his company debut. They are joined by Aleksandra Kurzak as Gilda and Giuseppe Filianoti as the Duke of Mantua, both of whom are also singing their roles for the first time at the Met. Viktoria Vizin makes her Met debut as Maddalena, and Mikhail Petrenko sings his first Sparafucile with the company. Georgian bass George Gagnidze makes his Met debut on January 27 in the title role and sings the following five performances through February 12. Piotr Beczala, whose performances as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor last fall drew wide acclaim, sings the Duke on February 12. A second run of performances begins April 1 and features the first Met Gilda of Diana Damrau, who earlier this season created a sensation with her interpretation of the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor. She will be partnered with Joseph Calleja as the Duke and Roberto Frontali as Rigoletto. Frontali returns for the April performances which run through April 17. Vital's LOOKING FOR THE PONY Begins Performances 1/21

Vital Theatre Company recently announced the rolling world premiere of Looking For The Pony by Andrea Lepcio, directed by Stephan Golux and featuring J. Smith-Cameron, Deidre O'Connell, Lori Funk and Debargo Sanyal. The production begins previews on Wednesday, January 21st and opens on Monday, January 26th at 7pm. Performances continue Saturday, January 24th at 4pm and 8pm, Sunday, January 25th at 4pm, and Monday, January 26th at 7pm. From January 28th, there will be performances on Wednesdays at 2pm and 7pm, Thursdays at 7pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Saturdays and Sundays at 4pm through February 8th. Tickets are $45.00; $30 for students and seniors (preview tickets are $35.00; $20 for students and seniors.) After its New York run, Looking For The Pony will also be presented at Synchronicity Performance Group in Atlanta in February. Robyn Nevin AM and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Arvo Volmer, will present a stirring tribute to President-elect Barack Obama in New York City on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 8PM at Carnegie Hall - following the inauguration of the 44th President earlier that day. The performance will be a feature of the Australia Plays Broadway concert being presented as part of G?Day USA: Australia Week 2009. Widely regarded as the first lady of the Australian stage, Robyn Nevin will deliver the spoken word component of Aaron Copland?s Lincoln Portrait, to be performed by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Arvo Volmer. Copland?s emotionally charged composition features extracts from President Abraham Lincoln?s letters and speeches, most notably the Gettysburg Address. One of the most quoted speeches in United States history, the Gettysburg Address was delivered by Lincoln in 1863 at the dedication of the Soldiers? National Cemetery in Gettysburg Pennsylvania. With the Civil War in progress, the two-minute speech invoked the principles of human equality espoused by the Declaration of Independence.

The Seafarer, featuring ensemble members Francis Guinan (through 2/1), tom irwin, John Mahoney and Alan Wilder with Bradley Armacost (2/3 ? 2/22) and Randall Newsome, runs December 4, 2008 ? February 22, 2009 in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre, 1650 N. Halsted St. It's Christmas Eve in Dublin. In the rundown house where Sharky cares for his blind brother, Old Acquaintances gather for a card game?joined by an ominous stranger. As the booze flows and the game intensifies, Sharky discovers he is playing for his soul. In this eerie, darkly humorous tale, celebrated playwright Conor McPherson examines how we face the demons of our past as we struggle to find redemption. The Seafarer is the second of two plays by Conor McPherson premiering in Chicago at Steppenwolf this season. McPherson's Dublin Carol played November 6, 2008 ? January 4, 2009 in Steppenwolf's Upstairs Theatre. The Seafarer makes its Chicago premiere following a critically-acclaimed Broadway run.
