Three artists who call San Francisco's EXIT Theatre home will each be part of the Third Annual FRIGID New York theatre festival, February 25-March 8, 2009. FRIGID New York was co-founded by New York's Horse Trade Theatre and San Francisco's EXIT Theatre.

The Pearl Theatre Company recently announced the third production of its 25th Anniversary Season, Shakespeare's capricious comedy, Twelfth Night (Or What You Will). The opening night of The Pearl Theatre Company?s production will be on February 2nd, the same day as the first recorded performance of the play in 1602.

In February 2009, The New York Philharmonic This Week a two-hour, national, weekly radio program of concerts by the New York Philharmonic will begin with Gustavo Dudamel conducting the Orchestra in Oliver Knussen's Violin Concerto, featuring Pinchas Zukerman, and Mahler's Symphony No. 5. The following week, Riccardo Muti returns to conduct Haydn's Symphony No. 89; selected arias from Haydn operas Armida and L'anima del filosofo ossia Orfeo ed Euridice, with bass-baritone Thomas Quasthoff as soloist; and Brahms's Serenade No. 1. The third broadcast, led by Kurt Masur, commemorates the bicentenary of Mendelssohn's birth in an all-Mendelssohn program featuring his Overture to Ruy Blas; Violin Concerto, with guest artist Anne-Sophie Mutter; and Die erste Walpurgisnacht with mezzo-soprano Christine Knorren (in her Philharmonic debut), tenor Jorma Silvasti (in his Philharmonic debut), bass-baritone Albert Dohmen (in his Philharmonic subscription debut), bass Thorsten Gr?mbel (in his Philharmonic debut), and the Westminster Symphonic Choir. Goodman Theatre Artistic Director Robert Falls and renowned actor Brian Dennehy bring their artistic partnership to new heights with Eugene O'Neill's haunting drama, Desire Under the Elms?marking their fifth collaboration on O'Neill's work over two decades. Falls' cast includes stage and screen stars Carla Gugino (Entourage, Spy Kids, Sin City) Pablo Schreiber (Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Awake and Sing!), Boris McGiver (The Wire) and Daniel Stewart Sherman (Broadway's Cyrano de Bergerac). The centerpiece production of Goodman Theatre's two-month 'A Global Exploration: Eugene O'Neill in the 21st Century,' Desire Under the Elms appears January 17 ? Due to popular demand, award winning writer/composer Joe Iconis' musical ReWrite, a musical comedy triple feature will be extended through January 11 (originally slated to close on January 3). Tokyo's acclaimed Company East returns to New York with a unique adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Director and choreographer Kenji Kawarasaki's World Premiere production, which blends traditional eastern techniques of Noh with modern western dance to produce culturally rich dance-drama, begins performances on January 29 in The Annex Theatre at La MaMa ETC.

The full cast and creative team details for The Alliance Theatre production of Jesus Christ Superstar GOSPEL was recently announced. Jesus Christ Superstar GOSPEL, a reconceived version of the Tim Rice-Andrew Lloyd Webber musical will be directed by Susan V. Booth and is set to run January 14-February 22, with an opening on January 21.

Cherry Lane Theatre, Angelina Fiordellisi Artistic Director and James King Managing Director will present 'The Amish Project' for three weeks as a work in progress from Saturday, January 10 through Sunday, February 1, 2009. 'The Amish Project', which is written and performed by Jessica Dickey, and directed by Sarah Cameron Sunde, is a one-person play inspired by the tragedy at the Nickel Mines Amish Settlement in 2006. Imbued with poetry and humor, the show explores a community grappling with loss and faith. Cherry Lane plans to produce the world premier in April.

The Lighthouse Theatre Company presents 'Dumb Show' by Joe Penhall, Off Broadway at Under St. Marks theatre at 94 St, Marks Place (bet 1st Ave & Avenue A). Previews begin on Wednesday, February 11th, 2009 and the opening is Friday, February 13th at 8:00 p.m for the limited engagement of this New York Premiere. Two weeks before the Chicago production of Wicked ends its run at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts' Oriental Theatre, the musical's composer, Stephen Schwartz, will join author Carol de Giere for an evening at the Old Orchard Shopping Centre's Barnes & Noble.
