CRIME AND PUNISHMENT Opens Intiman's 2009 Season

Intiman Theatre, under the leadership of Artistic Director Bartlett Sher and Managing Director Brian Colburn, opens its 2009 season with a 90-minute, three-actor version of Dostoyevsky?s classic suspense novel Crime and Punishment, adapted by Marilyn Campbell and Curt Columbus, and directed by Sheila Daniels. Performances will begin at the Intiman Playhouse, 201 Mercer Street at Seattle Center, on Sunday, March 29 and continue through Sunday, May 3. The opening night performance is Friday, April 3 at 8 pm.

The 2008?09 New York Philharmonic Very Young People?s Concerts, geared to children ages three to five, will begin on Sunday, April 26, 2009, at 12:30 and 3:00 p.m., and Monday, April 27, at 10:30 a.m., at Merkin Concert Hall, 129 West 67th Street. This first program of the season, entitled ?Allegro and Adagio,? will explore how tempo makes music fun, and will feature works by Dvoř?k, Brahms, and Smetana, along with hands-on music-making with musicians from the Orchestra.

Theresa Rebeck (creator of the Alley?s success The Scene and Bad Dates) returns to the Alley with Mauritius. The title, Mauritius, refers to an island off the coast of Africa from which a now highly collectible stamp, described as 'the crown jewel of philately,' was issued in the age of Victoria. Like the Maltese Falcon, the Mauritius stamp is the fraught object of desire for an assortment of shady characters with different and mysterious backgrounds and motives, who move through the twists of the plot's crosses and double-crosses. Recommended for mature audiences. Mauritius by Theresa Rebeck and directed by Scott Schwartz begins Friday, April 10 and runs through Sunday, May 3 on the Hubbard Stage.

The award-winning playwright David Hare has announced that Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig is the recipient of the 2009 Yale Drama Series Award for Playwriting for her play Lidless. Ms. Cowhig's Yale Drama Series prize includes a $10,000 award from the David C. Horn Foundation, along with a staged reading of the work at Yale Rep in September 2009 (date TBA) and the publication of the play by Yale University Press.
