Opening in Village Players Performing Arts Center's Blackbox Theatre, Alfred Uhry?s Pulitzer-winning play, Driving Miss Daisy, runs April 3-April 19, 2009. Under the direction of the Village Players Theatre?s Artist Director, Carl O?cchipinti, this charming play tells the story of the relationship between an elderly Southern Jewish widow and her African-American chauffeur. Over their twenty five years together, spanning 1948-1973, their friendship evolves as they face aging and complex social issues of the time. Written by Alfred Uhry, he won the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for the work.

Music Director Designate ALAN GILBERT Returns To Lead The New York Philharmonic In Two Programs, 4/30 - 5/9

Alan Gilbert, who will become Music Director of the New York Philharmonic in September 2009, returns to New York to lead two weeks of programs with the Orchestra. The first series of concerts ? Thursday, April 30, 2009, at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, May 1 and 2, and 8:00 p.m., and Tuesday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m. will comprise Dvorák?s The Golden Spinning Wheel; Saint-Saëns?s Violin Concerto No. 3, with Joshua Bell as soloist; and Martin's Symphony No. 4.

EVERETT WARD Receives Honorable Mention In The Hand-Pulled Prints XIV Juried Exhibition, Exhibition Of Work To Be Held 5/1 - 5/31

Local artist Everett Ward of the Carnegie Arts Center has received honorable mention in the ?Hand-Pulled Prints XIV? juried exhibition in San Antonio, Texas. The exhibition is to be held at the StoneMetal Press Printing Center in Texas from May 1 through May 31, 2009. The piece entered and accepted is titled ?Light and Shadow #2?. Mr. Ward creates detailed realistic images in Lithography. The process is time intensive and requires mastered skills in lithography techniques. He has taught and worked at the Carnegie Arts Center for many years and has received several such recognitions through the years.

Berkeley Rep Announces Its 2009/10 Season

Today, even as it celebrates sending another show to Broadway, Berkeley Repertory Theatre announced a new season of adventurous plays for local theatre lovers. Tony Taccone, artistic director of the Tony Award-winning company, revealed five bold shows selected for the upcoming year. His ambitious agenda for the 2009/10 season includes three world premieres: a compelling script commissioned from Naomi Iizuka, a captivating new collaboration from Lisa Kron and Leigh Silverman, and the debut of a beautiful musical from Matthew Sweet and Todd Almond. The Theatre?s 42nd season also includes a West Coast premiere by Tony Kushner, the Bay Area?s introduction to Aurélia?s Oratorio, and two plays to be named at a later date. Best of all, the cost of a subscription to Berkeley Rep will not increase this year, meaning that some seats for these shows can be snatched up at the 1998 price!

The original cast of The Old Vic?s critically acclaimed revival of Alan Ayckbourn?s comedy trilogy, The Norman Conquests, began rehearsal today in London. Director Matthew Warchus flew to London following last night?s opening of his production of God of Carnage to direct his Norman Conquests company. The Norman Conquests begins previews on Tuesday, April 7 on Broadway, prior to opening on Thursday, April 23 at Circle in the Square Theatre (235 West 50th Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue).

Theatre At The Center's GET IN THE GAME - A Special Kids' Broadway Musical Theatre Workshop To Run 7/20 - 7/31

Theatre at the Center, recognized for bringing exciting, fun and educational productions and opportunities, announces a special musical theater workshop geared towards children ages 8 through 11. From start to finish, children will learn all aspects of putting on a musical, from auditioning to designing to performing. Theatre at the Center (1040 Ridge Road, Munster, Indiana) will close the workshop with a special sports musical, Get In The Game, featuring the hard work of all of the students. Margaret Jane Wray To Sing In Cavalleria Rusticana 3/26

Margaret Jane Wray will sing the role of Santuzza in Mascagni?s Cavalleria Rusticana tonight, replacing Waltraud Meier, who is ill. Meier remains scheduled to sing on March 26. Wray made her Met debut in 1987 and is a graduate of the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program and a Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions winner (1985). She has been heard at the Met as Sieglinde in Die Walküre and Ortrud in Lohengrin, among many other roles.

Roles are available for 4 women ages 25 - 45 and 2 men ages 35 - 65. The role of ?Madame Arcati? has been cast. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Headshots and resumes helpful, but not required. Show dates are May 29 through June 13. The annual Youth Actor's Guild Scholarship Night is Monday, March 30th, at 7pm at the theatre.
