Chichester's Festival 2011 closes with Sweeney Todd, the musical commonly acknowledged to be Stephen Sondheim's masterpiece, in a cast led by distinguished musical performer Michael Ball and Oscar-nominated actress Imelda Staunton.

The Librarian of Congress, James H. Billington, announced today that Grammy- and Academy-Award-winning songwriters Burt Bacharach and Hal David will join the ranks of Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, and Paul McCartney as recipients of the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Bacharach and David each will receive the Library's Gershwin Medal next spring at an all-star tribute in Washington D.C. This will be the fourth time the honor has been awarded and the first time to a songwriting team.

According to Variety, The Madness of George III, which is touring the UK will make a West End transfer n the near future. The production, which is directed was Christopher Luscombe, will play the Apollo Theater, January 18 - March 31.

Hosted by Steve Jones, THE X FACTOR made its highly anticipated debut last week on FOX. THE X FACTOR judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, L.A. Reid and Nicole Scherzinger began their search for undiscovered talent 12 years old and over - both solo artists and vocal groups - who are worthy of the largest prize in television history: a $5 million recording contract with Syco/Sony Music. This week the judges travelled to New Jersey for auditions.

On Thursday, November 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Zankel Hall, the Carnegie Hall Notables-a membership and ticket program for music enthusiasts in their 20s and 30s-will host Love Letters, a performance of contemporary American playwright A. R. Gurney's work. Celebrated soprano Renée Fleming and award-winning actor Alec Baldwin will perform the piece as directed by Mark Lamos with executive producer Susan Q. Gallin. After the exclusive event, the Notables will gather at Providence for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, with music by Paul D. Miller, aka DJ Spooky.

Fifty years after its release, the MGM re-mastered film returns to the big screen in high definition with its original vocals and dialog intact. Experience this classic romantic tragedy and the bitter battle between the Jets and the Sharks as Leonard Bernstein's seminal score, featuring the much loved ‘America', ‘Somewhere' and ‘Tonight', is dramatically brought to life on stage by The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra conducted by Jayce Ogren.

Broadway-bound Patti LuPOne recently chatted with the LA Times about people who have influenced and inspired her throughout her career. On Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim, LuPone said: 'He's a task master when it comes to pitch and what is considered Broadway singing -- no bending of the note, no swooping. I was in 'Company' this year at the New York Philharmonic -- at the after-party, he gave me a note and I wanted to smack him. Well, I didn't want to smack him. But this was two hours after the production closed.'

'The Rosie Show' announced today that comedian, actor and author Russell Brand will be the first guest to appear on its premiere show, Monday, Oct. 10 at 7:00 p.m. ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.

Two-Time Tony Nominee Alison Fraser and Jill Shackner join previously announced actress Alysia Reiner in A CHARITY CASE. This new play about adoption by Australian playwright and director Wendy Beckett, will open Wednesday, November 2nd at Off Broadway's Clurman Theatre (410 West 42nd Street - between 9th and 10th Avenues). The play, which is also directed by Ms. Beckett, begins previews Friday, October 28th. The play is produced by Peter Walters for Pascal Productions. A CHARITY CASE is third in a series of Ms. Beckett's plays that Pascal Productions will produce in New York.

Over 400 leaders in the advertising and market industries will join GLAAD for the 2011 Amplifier Awards to honor the best in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) inclusive advertising. The silent auction/cocktail reception, Awards presentation and after party are presented by Omnicom Group and in part by DRAFTFCB and ROKK Vodka. The event will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at The Altman Building in New York City.

According to the NY Times, former SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK director Julie Taymor and the producers of the show will enter arbitration next week over the $500,000 in royalties that Taymor claims is owed to her.
