Pittsburgh Cultural Trust Updates Late Night Cabaret Series with Thursday Shows, 4/22April 20, 2010The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust continues to develop its Late Night Cabaret Series with events such as the Pittsburgh Improv Jam, Salsa Fridays, in addition to many Saturday night events. The series has expanded by adding a weekly improv comedy show every Thursday night. All events play Thursdays thru Saturdays at Theater Square, 655 Penn Avenue.
Pennsylvania's Stage Theatre Presents 'Nobodies of Comedy,' 5/7April 20, 2010For the eighth year, the State Theatre presents the comics, 'Nobodies of Comedy' on Friday, May 7th at 8 PM. The evening will include a screening of 'Budrus', the Award Winning Documentary film, a panel discussion moderated by CNN's chief international correspondent Christiane Amanpour and featuring Avni, Bacha, and the Palestinian protagonist of the film, Ayed Morrar, along with MIT researcher, Nicole Argo. The Metropolitan Opera Presents 'Der Fliegende Holländer', 4/23-5/14April 20, 2010Starting April 23, Wagner's 'Der Fliegende Hollander' (The Flying Dutchman) returns to the New York Met for the first time since 2000, starring soprano Deborah Voigt in her Met role debut as Senta. When Voigt performed the role in 2005, the Boston Globe described her voice as "huge, bright, and refulgent." Juha Uusitalo brings his renowned interpretation of the mysterious Dutchman to the Met stage for the first time. Tenor Stephen Gould makes his Met debut as Erik, and bass Hans-Peter Konig sings Daland for the first time with the company. Kazushi Ono takes the Met podium to conduct. For the final performance, Philip Webb will sing the role of Erik. August Everding's production, which had its Met premiere in 1989, features set design by Hans Schavernoch, costumes by Lore Haas, and lighting by Gil Wechsler. Stephen Pickover is the Stage Director. Performances run through May 14.
Orange County Performing Arts Center Offers Musical Theater Camp, 6/22-26April 20, 2010The Orange County Performing Arts Center is offering local high school students the opportunity to join its brand-new weeklong musical theater summer camp from June 22 to 26 on the Center's campus.
