Beat Kaestli will celebrate the release of his CHESKY RECORDS debut, Invitation [SACD348], with a show at Birdland Jazz Club on Thursday, April 29th, 2010 at 6 pm. Invitation [SACD348] features Billy Drummond on drums, Jay Leonhart on bass, Paul Meyers on guitar, Joel Frahm on saxophone and Kenny Rampton on Trumpet. Invitation [SACD348] marks the first release for CHESKY RECORDS in 2010.
In this evening's performance (April 27) of Rossini's ARMIDA, Barry Banks will sing the role of Gernando, replacing Jose Manuel Zapata, who is ill. Banks will also sing the role of Carlo, which he was already scheduled to perform. The character of Gernando only appears in Act I, and Carlo only appears in Act III, which makes it possible for the roles to be performed by one singer.

GAN-e-meed Theatre Project launches their first season with a modern interpretation of Shakespeare's HAMLET featuring an all-female cast, performing May 7-30. In honor of Mother's Day, tickets for mothers for opening weekend (May 7-9) are $10. Producing Artistic Director SerahRose Roth leads the cast as the prince who, charged with a mission by his father's ghost, must unravel his family's mysteries with spies lurking at every turn. The Lark Play Development Center will host French-African playwright Koffi Kwahulé in New York City on May 13 and 14. Free public readings of Kwahulé's play, THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC, translated by Chantal Bilodeau will be presented at the Lark Studio. The readings are part of Lark's 7 year project to translate, develop, and publish seven of Kwahulé's plays in an effort to both encourage international exchange and to bring to the forefront a unique theatrical voice.
The Civic Center of Greater Des Moines announced today, April 27, that it will be introducing two new youth summer camps as part of the Civic Center's education and community engagement programs. The camps are designed to provide participants ranging in age from 6 to 19 with unique and lasting theater experiences facilitated by professional artists.

(RED), with Anonymous Content and HBO Documentary Films present 'The Lazarus Effect', a half hour documentary airing on HBO Monday, May 24th, 2010 at 9:00pm which is at the center of a multi-media campaign by (RED) to raise awareness about the impact of large scale AIDS programs at work in Sub-Saharan Africa. Directed by Lance Bangs and executive produced by Spike Jonze and Susan Smith Ellis, 'The Lazarus Effect' follows the stories of four individuals whose lives have been transformed from a near death existence to a healthier, more stable life in as little as three months.
For a one week engagement, May 18-May 23, British singer Barb Jungr will celebrate the U.S. release of her new album, 'The Men I Love' (released 5/11) at the Metropolitan Room. Jungr, who is best known for her deconstruction of songs by American rockers, subtitles her new album as 'The New American Songbook." Her new live show, "River," is her eighth engagement at The Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd Street, since 2007. A collection of iconic songs from the late 20th century that rarely are heard in jazz and cabaret rooms, "River" opens on Tuesday May 18 at 7pm, playing six shows through Sunday May 23 at 7pm. The show includes a number of standouts from last year's rapturously reviewed "The Men I Love," which The New York Times said "sparked a small revolution" when it opened at the Cafe Carlyle in March, before being reprised at in a sell-out run The Metropolitan Room in September.

Megadeth and Slayer, who last toured the U.S. together 19 years ago on the "Clash of the Titans" extravaganza, are confirmed to perform at Cobo Arena on Thursday, Aug. 19 at 7:00 p.m for their American Carnage Tour. Rescheduled from last February's performance, Slayer will perform "Seasons In The Abyss" and Megadeth's will perform "Platinum Rust In Peace". With Slayer and Megadeth co-headlining, Testament will be the Special Guest on all dates.

'Princess Kaiulani' will be presented May 3 at 7 pm at the. Other titles previously announced include 'Mimics' on April 26 and 'Holy Rollers' on May 17.
