The University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering will celebrate a century of solutions at its E-Week Open House 9 am to 3 pm April 23 in Othmer Hall. A tradition since 1913, E-Week is dedicated to recognizing and rewarding engineers' accomplishments. The guest speaker for the event, Brian Halla, Executive Chairman of National Semiconductor and an alumnus of UNL's electrical engineering program, will speak at 10:30 am in 106 Othmer Hall, Vine Street between 16th and 17th streets.
An Evening with Terry Angel Mason, gay writer and Civil Rights Activist, will be hosted at the OMSA/LGBTQ Student Life offices at 5710 S. Woodlawn on April 28, 2010. Mr. Mason will be discussing his Pulitzer Prize-Nominated novel, Love Won't Let Me Be Silent. Mason, is returning to Chicago thanks to the collaborative efforts of Affinity Community Services, Teen Living Programs (TLP), UCAN, and the University of Chicago's Office of LGBTQ Life and Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA).

The jazz duo known as The Stryker/Slagle Band is scheduled for upcoming New Jersey appearances, in addition to the release of their new CD on Saturday, April 17. Guitarist Dave Stryker and Saxophonist Steve Slagle have been developing their own group sound for over 20 years. Dave Stryker spent over 13 years with Stanley Turrentine, and also worked with Jack McDuff, Kevin Mahogany and Eliane Elias. He has 19 CD's out as a leader, and has been a sideman on over 50 others. Saxophonist Steve Slagle has released 10 CD's as a leader, and performed as a sideman on countless others. On Sunday, May 2, Crash Landing Theater presents the return of CRIP SLAM--a collection of short plays by 8 disabled writers and one token walkie. Nine selected Chicago writers have just a few days to write a five-minute scene in response to a challenging prompt. The writers cast the scenes from a pool of actors who have less than an hour to rehearse. No directors involved.
Fidelity FutureStage® Playwriting Contest winner, Katarzyna (Kathy) Roszczeda, a New York City high school senior, is headed to Broadway this June to see her original play produced on stage at the Imperial Theatre, home to 2009 Tony Award-winning Best Musical, BILLY ELLIOT. On Sunday, April 11, Roszczeda had the opportunity to celebrate by meeting Elton John, BILLY ELLIOT composer and honorary chairperson of Fidelity FutureStage, at opening night of the musical in Chicago.
THE PAN SHOW will be presented by Touchstone Theatre (321 E. 4th Street, Bethlehem, PA) from May 13-22. Shows are at 8pm Thursdays and Fridays, and on Saturdays there will be an 8pm show and a special late night, 10:30pm performance. Writing and design for the off-Broadway style musical are by two Lehigh Valley artists- James Jordan of the Touchstone Theatre Ensemble and Christopher Shorr, Theatre Director of Moravian College. THE PAN SHOW offers a re-imagining of both the musical, and a classic figure from Greek mythology, as the half-man, half-goat god Pan is dropped into a contemporary milieu of sex, drugs and rock and roll. The music features a variety of styles, including marches, techno, house, and rock, and has all been newly created by Jordan and Shorr.
The University Village Barnes & Noble continues to host Seattle Opera's 'Creating Amelia' series this week (thru Sunday, April 18) by hosting a book fair. In the weeks leading up to the world premiere of AMELIA, Seattle Opera presents a variety of panel discussions, lectures, and other events designed to provide unique insight into the development of this new work and reach out to new communities with particular ties to the opera's story and themes. The book fair features works from both Amelia librettist Gardner McFall and composer Daron Aric Hagen. Seattle Opera benefits from the sale of ALL items in the store during this week. Machine Theatre will be holding auditions for its July production of THOMTHOM (IF THAT BIRD WON'T SING) on Monday, April 26 at Plaza Presbyterian Church, located at 2304 The Plaza Charlotte, NC 28205. Auditions are from 6-9 pm. The show will rehearse the month of June (with a few meetings to work on music in May) and perform the first three weeks of July. Auditionees should come dressed to move and prepared to do cold readings from the text. Call backs, if needed, will be held on Thursday April 29th 6pm at the same location.
