COT will also be presenting a one-night only concert with Frederica von Stade and Jake Heggie on May 10, also at the Harris Theater.

The Seventh Annual Langston Hughes African American Film Festival, running April 17 thru April 25, will feature a full schedule of events including the Genie Award-winning film, 'Nurse.Fighter.Boy', appearances by filmmakers including Altrick Brown, Ava DuVernay, Charles Officer, and Morgan Stiff, the Seattle Premiere of 'Soundtrack for a Revolution' and 'Mississippi Damned', a Family Friday, and a filmmaking workshop. The film festival is expected to draw over 2,500 people who are passionate about creating and appreciating films for the Black community. The Festival is run by community volunteers under the Direction of Jacqueline Moscou, Langston Hughes' Artistic Director.

The Katy Visual & Performing Arts Center (KVPAC) in Katy, Texas presents ONCE UPON A MATTRESS. Running April 23-25, The musical comedy is set in medieval times when Knights sat at round tables and Ladies-in-Waiting paraded through castle courtyards. KVPAC's ONCE UPON A MATTRESS is Directed by Gregory Magyar, Choreographed and Assistant Directed by Adam Turner and Lisa Burt. The cast start KVPAC's Senior Company. Set Design by Warren Cochran, and costumes are graciously on loan from Seven Lakes High School. Musical director, Adam Stout adds live music to the production--a first for the KVPAC Company!

On Friday, May 14, the Utah Cultural Celebration Center presents the Western Federation of Watercolor Society's 35th Annual Exhibit entitled, High Desert Splash. The exhibit's opening reception will be from 7-9 pm. Drawing from 4,000 members and representing 11 states, High Desert Splash presents 101 pieces of art in the West. Running thru June 28, the exhibit will be open from 9 am to 6 pm. High Desert Splash is open to everyone and is free of charge.

The visual arts as a form of adolescent expression will be on display April 20-25, 2010 at the the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center in Appleton, WI. As part of a program that promotes self-esteem in young women, the organization, Project Girl, is using LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL as a vehicle for self-discovery. Together, Project Girl and The Fox Cities Performing Arts Center are recognizing LEGALLY BLONDE'S leading lady, Elle Woods, as a potential case study for girls. The two organization have formed a collaborative effort to raise awareness about the negative effects of media messaging on the self-esteem and body image of young women. Materials for the program were used from Project Girl, and were facilitated by women leaders from the Fox Cities. The participants include 20 adolescent girls who range in age from 10-15, along with their mentors from Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Fox Valley Region.

On Saturday, May 29, Statewide Emergency (featuring a special guest) will perform a CD release show at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, Colorado. Statewide Emergency is a rock and roll quartet that plays honest original music with complex melodies and quality musicianship. Although much of the vocals and guitar are rooted in blues and alternative music (The Black Keys, Queens of the Stone Age), the rhythm section is inspired by more straight ahead rock bands such as Led Zeppelin and The Dead Weather leaving more intrigue than doubt about what genre the band plays. Northrop Performing Arts at the University of Minnesota presents a performance featuring three Zimbabwean artists. Headlining the event is Nora Chipaumire on Thursday, April 29 at 7:30 pm. Nora Chipaumire is dedicated to the visual, aural, and kinesthetic equivalent of Africa's great cities. Self-exiled artist and Bessie Award winner, Chipaumire is known for her brave, transnational work that investigates contemporary African life. Chipaumire teams up with dancer Souleymane Badolo and master musician and poet Thomas Mapfumo with his band The Blacks Unlimited. In conjunction with the April 29 performance, screenings of the African films 'Nora', 'St. Louis Blues', and '1X2' will be presented April 27-28 and May 1.

Photographer Martha Swope, recipient of the 2004 Tony Award for Excellence in Theatre, will be honored by The Humane Society of New York on Tuesday, April 27 at a Benefit Photography Auction at the DVF Studio, 440 West 14th Street, from 6-9 pm. Swope will be honored with an exhibit of her work taken while she was official photographer for the New York City Ballet, Martha Graham Dance Company, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and Broadway. Her images include legends such as Baryshnikov, Jerome Robbins, Balanchine, Suzanne Farrell, and Liza Minnelli.
