San Francisco?s cutting-edge Cutting Ball Theater proudly announces the lineup for its 10th Anniversary season. The season opens in October with The Bald Soprano, Eugène Ionesco?s absurdist comic masterpiece, in a new translation by Cutting Ball Artistic Director Rob Melrose, who will also direct. The company is also poised to present ? And Jesus Moonwalks The Mississippi, a new play by Marcus Gardley, directed by Amy Mueller. Back by popular demand is Eugenie Chan?s retelling of the Ariadne myth, Bone to Pick, which received its World Premiere in Cutting Ball?s 2007-2008 season as part of Avant GardARAMA!; this provocative play, starring Paige Rogers, will be accompanied by a newly commissioned companion piece, Diadem, in May; both will be directed by Rob Melrose.

Directed by Brad Rondeau, this tale begins with three stories, two of them well-known fairy tales, and one not quite as recognized, all involving wishes. Dirty and hard-worked Cinderella wishes to go to the festival, Jack (from the beanstalk story) wishes his cow would give milk, and the baker and his wife wish their futile attempts at starting a family would finally result in a pregnancy. Though many characters? stories come and go in the first act, they all revolve around the baker and his wife trying to reverse a curse set on them by an ugly witch, who sends them on a wild goose chase to find three coveted items that will bring her what she?s been longing for: youth. Join these and other characters like, Rapunzel, The Wolf, Red Riding Hood, Prince Charming, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and the Three Little Pigs, on a grown-up journey through times greatest fairy tale. Memorable songs from the show include: Children Will Listen, Agony, Your Fault and Giants in the Sky. The coveted first place trophy was awarded following Sunday evening?s Competition to Eric Kasprzyk and Angieszka Suminski of Oriole Park; second place went to Jamari Bryant and D?Kyra Long of Attucks Academy; third place went to Timothy Grzebieluch and Allyson Abbinanti of Oriole Park; fourth place to Eric Quinones and Raven Jones of New Sullivan; and fifth and sixth places went to Jawaun Lee and Ketyra Carter, and Hasaan P. Morris and Janell Island, respectively, all of Attucks Academy. The Final Competition, held on Sunday, May 17 at the Stephen M Bailey Auditorium, was free and open to the public and saw an unprecedented crowd turn out to support the 80 CPS competitors.
