The uniquely conceived initiative, with funds earmarked specifically for emerging filmmakers of African nationality and residence, offers eligible and participating filmmakers the chance to be awarded $10,000 in financing for pre-production, production, and/or post-production on their narrative short film made in continental Africa and tapping into the resources of the film industry there. Brava! for Women in the Arts celebrates the completion of its first theatrical season under the new direction of Artistic Director, Raelle Myrick-Hodges, with a special end of the year event. ?Seven plays in Seven months. We have plenty to celebrate,? says Artistic Director Raelle Myrick-Hodges,? We went from producing one production every few years to seven productions this season alone. We hired over 175 local actors, directors and production artists and I believe we have a ton to be proud of ? particularly during this economic climate.? Brava?s 2008-2009 season was a surprise, with two World Premieres, three Regional Premieres, and an extension of its education program with two Main Stage productions. The company also presented series of special events including a musical performance Trios Los Panchos, an Evening with L Word?s creator Ilene Chaiken and Martin Luther King celebration the night before the first African American president of the United States was inaugurated.

The show is directed by David Grapes, who conceived the revue along with Todd Olson.

MTG To Hold General Auditions 6/11

Miracle Theatre Group, the Northwest's premier Latino arts and culture organization, will hold its general auditions on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at the Milagro Theatre (525 SE Stark St., Portland). Olga Sanchez, one of the company?s two artistic directors, says the theatre this year is particularly interested in seeing actors who sing and who can speak some Spanish, since most of the work in the nonprofit theatre?s 2009-2010 season taps those talents. Arizona Theatre Company Receives A $2.18 Million Technology Grant From Piper Trust

Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust has awarded $2.18 million in grants to Maricopa County nonprofits, including Arizona Theatre Company. Thanks to this grant, Arizona Theatre Company will purchase and implement an integrated customer relationship management software system to better serve its patrons in Arizona. Other plans include website development and hardware upgrades.
