This weekend, beginning Saturday, September 5, L.A. Theatre Works will air The Real Thing by Tom Stoppard, starring Andrea Bowen, Matt Gaydos, Carolyn Seymour, Simon Templeman, Douglas Weston, Joanne Whalley and Matthew Wolf. Rotary International is joining violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman and the world-renowned New York Philharmonic, led by Philharmonic Assistant Conductor Daniel Boico, to present the Concert to End Polio, a benefit performance supporting the global effort to eradicate this disabling childhood disease. The Concert to End Polio will take place on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. in Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, New York City. The New York Musical Theatre Festival, Michael Minarik & Eleven Entertainment announced today that Carly Jibson (Cry-Baby, Hairspray), Clarke Thorell (Catch Me If You Can, Hairspray), Sarah Saltzberg (?Spelling Bee), Kristine Zbornik (A Catered Affair, Road Show) and Randy Blair (Adding Machine) will star in Fat Camp, a new, completely original musical, at the 2009 New York Musical Theatre Festival. ArtsWest starts the 2009-10 season with Dead Man's Cell Phone, a wildly imaginative new work from Sarah Ruhl, the playwright behind The Clean House and Eurydice. When Jean answers the cell phone of the corpse at the next table, she unwittingly embarks on a quirky odyssey that takes her from grief to the black market to the afterlife. With unfailing empathy, she sets the dead man's bizarre life to rights and on the way resurrects her own. ArtsWest favorite Carol Roscoe returns to direct this Seattle premiere.
