Three choreographers have been chosen to take part in New York City Center's inaugural Choreography Fellowship Program, a new initiative being launched in conjunction with the theater's reopening season. The Fellowship will provide three choreographers at critical stages of their careers with a creative home at City Center for one year. The recipients are: Emery LeCrone, an emerging ballet choreographer; Andrea Miller, Artistic Director of Gallim Dance; and Shen Wei, Artistic Director of Shen Wei Dance Arts.

Tony Award winner Idina Menzel has a diverse career on stage and in film, television, and music. In 2009 Ms. Menzel co- starred with Josh Groban in the concert version of Chess: The Musical, recorded at London's Royal Albert Hall and broadcast on PBS. In December 2005 she completed her role as the misunderstood Elphaba in Broadway's Wicked, for which she received a Tony Award for Lead Actress in a Musical and a Drama Desk Award nomination. She is currently starring as Rachel Berry's biological mother, Shelby Corcoran on GLEE. Menzel just performed at Royal Albert Hall, and British Theatre went behind the scenes of the big concert! Beginning with tonight's performance, Andy Karl and Quinn Van Antwerp have joined the Broadway cast of Jersey Boys. Karl (Legally Blonde, Wicked) steps in the role of Tommy DeVito; Dominic Nolfi departed on September 25th. Direct from the national tour of JERSEY BOYS, VanAntwerp steps in the role of Bob Gaudio; Ryan Jesse departed October 9. Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is pleased to announce that the 23rd Annual Gypsy of the Year will be held on Monday, December 5 (4:30 PM) and Tuesday, December 6 (2 PM) at the New Amsterdam Theatre (214 West 42nd Street).

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater presents the world premiere of Asuncion, a new play by Academy Award-nominee (The Social Network) Jesse Eisenberg. In a recent interview with the New York Post, Eisenberg chatted about his reasons for writing the play. He revealed: 'One of the reasons I wanted to write this was because I wanted to explore part of myself that's underdeveloped. The character in the play knows a lot about politics and history and he's read a lot, but he has no life experience. The play explores that disconnect.'

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg will join Alec Baldwin to present the 2011 Mayor's Awards for Arts and Culture to six individuals and organizations in celebration of their outstanding contributions to New York City's cultural life. The Mayor will also present the Handel Medallion, New York City's highest award for achievement in the arts, to the world-renowned composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim. The event, to be held at New York City's acclaimed Alice Tully Hall, will feature live performances by leading performing arts organizations, and appearances by special guest artists.

Fountain House, an internationally recognized organization dedicated to improving the lives of people living with mental illness, released news today that the cast is now complete for a staged reading of Daughter of the Queen of Sheba, with the addition of theatre, film and television actor David Aaron Baker. He will join previously announced headliners Joan Allen, Lauren Ambrose and Dan Futterman for the one-night-only performance based upon the acclaimed memoir by Jacki Lyden that recounts her experience growing up with a colorful and dramatic mother living with manic depression. The event will take place on Monday, October 17, 2011, from 6:30 to 10:00 pm, at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, located at 68th Street between Park and Lexington Avenues in New York City. Proceeds will benefit Fountain House, with support from NPR.
