Nicole Rosky

Nicole is the Editor-in-Chief of BroadwayWorld, where she began her journey as an intern in 2010. As BroadwayWorld's Senior Managing Editor, a role she took on in 2012, she covered over a decade's-worth of theatre and live entertainment in New York City and around the world. Throughout her time with BroadwayWorld, Nicole has worked extensively with the photo and video team, producing (and sometimes editing) a great deal of the site's original programming, including Backstage with Richard Ridge, Dance Captain Dance Attack, Next on Stage, Kid Critics, and Teen Critics, just to name a few. Originally from outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she is a proud graduate of Penn State University's College of Communications. Nicole currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, where she gets to enjoy far more great theatre than she ever dreamed. Her first great role was "Billy Flynn" in her fourth grade musical theatre class. Oh, how far she has come!

  • Tony Nominee Reactions - I have had the pleasure of covering every Tony Awards season since 2011 and one of my favorite parts is hearing from the nominees just moments after they find out that they ARE nominees.
  • Theatre Queens - When I'm not at a Broadway show, you'll find me at home, catching up on the latest episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race. I've had a blast chatting with many of the queens who call theatre their first love.
  • Broadway Jukebox - I love a good playlist and I find myself making them OFTEN. I've curated over 100 musical theatre playlists for BroadwayWorld (my personal favorite is "Female Anthems of Broadway"). Give them a listen and follow BroadwayWorld on Spotify to find out what I come up with next!

On the February 13th episode of NBC's new musical drama series SMASH entitled 'Callbacks', Ivy (Megan Hilty) and Karen (Katharine McPhee) jump through hoops for the brilliant but temperamental director Derek Wills (Jack Davenport) as they pursue the role of a lifetime. Meanwhile, Julia (Debra Messing) and her husband Frank (Brian d'Arcy James), are frustrated by the red tape of an international adoption process, and Eileen (Anjelica Huston) fights to finance her new musical in the midst of an acrimonious divorce. Christian Borle, Raza Jaffrey, and Jaime Cepero also star. The episode airs Monday, February 13th at 10:00 pm/ET. Happy Birthday Stockard Channing! In 1971, she made her Broadway debut in Two Gentlemen of Verona - The Musical, working with playwright John Guare. She also appeared on Broadway in 1973 in a supporting role in No Hard Feelings. In 1978, at the age of 33, she took on the role of high school teenager Betty Rizzo in the hit musical Grease. Additional Broadway credits include: They're Playing Our Song, A Day in the Death of Joe Egg, The House of Blue Leaves, Six Degrees of Separation, Woman in Mind, Four Baboons Adoring the Sun, and The Lion in Winter. She is currently starrign on Broadway in Other Desert Cities at the Booth Theatre.

The 22nd annual MusiCares tribute gala took place on February 10th, honoring Paul McCartney. McCartney has been selected as the 2012 MusiCare Person of the Year in recognition of his artistic and philanthropic efforts. The star-studded tribute took place at the Los Angeles Convention Center's West Hall. The gala featureD a cocktail reception, silent auction, dinner, and concert of McCartney's music, played by a variety of guest musicians as well as McCartney himself. The annual event is held to raise funds and awareness of the Recording Academy's philanthropic wing, with proceeds benefitting MusicCares' emergency financial assistance and addiction recovery programs.

As BroadwayWorld reported last week, the UK tour of David Seidler's play The King's Speech may conclude in the West End, and according to Whatsonstage, it might be heading for the Wyndham Theatre. Currently the home of Jackie Mason's West End show, he concludes his limited run March 17. The tour has so far officially confirmed dates in Guildford, Nottingham, Bath, Brighton, Richmond and Newcastle.

Last night, BroadwayWorld reported that E! Online revealed that Spring Awakening's original Wendla, GLEE star Lea Michele, is being courted for her old role in the upcoming film version of the show. Now EW.com has confirmed that she is not infact in talks to star in the project. Michele told EW: 'Spring Awakening is so special to me, as is the character Wendla. We have discussed this as a possibility, and we'll see what happens.'

As previously announced, Newsies will move to Broadway's Nederlander Theatre for a strictly limited 101 performance run this spring, following its critically-hailed run at Paper Mill Playhouse in fall 2011. The musical, featuring a score by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman, and a book by four-time Tony Award® winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles, Torch Song Trilogy), will play its first Broadway preview on March 15th prior to its March 29th opening night; the final performance is scheduled for June 10th.

BroadwayWorld has confirmed that in the upcoming Broadway revival of Evita, Ricky Martin will play 'Che' as originally written. A show representative revealed: 'The narrating role of "Che" is reverted to the way it was written for the original concept album - as an "everyman" of the lower/working class, serving as the voice of the people; not Che Guevara. Using Che Guevara as inspiration for the role was a choice made by Hal Prince when staging the original production.'

Stephen Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along, the first New York City Center Encores! production of the season, opens tonight, February 8 at New York City Center, and features Colin Donnell, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Elizabeth Stanley, Betsy Wolfe and Adam Grupper. Merrily We Roll Along, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth, is directed by James Lapine with music direction by Rob Berman and musical staging by Dan Knechtges. The producers of Arthur Miller's DEATH OF A SALESMAN announced today that a limited number of $30 rush tickets will be available to theatergoers 30 years of age and under at every performance, beginning February 14. Rush tickets will be sold in-person at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre box office (243 West 47th Street) when it opens on the day of the performance. There will be a limit of 2 tickets per valid ID, subject to availability. The box office is open Monday - Saturday from 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM.

The 2010 Tony Award winning Best Musical MEMPHIS announced today that Nancy Opel will return to the company as "Mama." Opel will begin performances on Tuesday, February 14th. Current "Mama" Cass Morgan will play her final performance on Sunday, February 12th. Opel returns from a leave of absence where she appeared in David Bryan and Joe DiPietro's The Toxic Avenger at The Alley Theater in Houston, TX.
