According to Deadline.com, Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep might star in an upcoming film about the making of Disney's 'Mary Poppins.' Titled 'Saving Mr. Banks,' the film features a screenplay by Kelly Marcel. Though neither has officially signed on for the movie, the duo would play Walt Disney and author P.L. Travers respectively.

ONCE, the new musical based on the 2007 Academy Award-winning film, will play Broadway's Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre this spring. Based on the ongoing success of the MCC Theater Youth Company over the past 12 years, MCC Theater has received a $25,000 grant from The Emily Davie and Joseph S. Kornfeld Foundation to launch a 2-year pilot program aimed at working with students from the George Washington High School Campus in Washington Heights.

Stephen Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along, the first New York City Center Encores! production of the season , will open on Wednesday, February 8 at New York City Center, and will feature Colin Donnell, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Elizabeth Stanley, Betsy Wolfe and Adam Grupper. Merrily We Roll Along, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth, will be directed by James Lapine with music direction by Rob Berman and musical staging by Dan Knechtges. Merrily has been extended for a two-week run and will play for 15 performances, February 8-19, 2012, 55th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues.

The Shakespeare Theatre Company will welcome to its stage puppeteer Basil Twist and his production of Petrushka, which will run at STC's Lansburgh Theatre (450 7th Street NW) from March 16-25, 2012. This limited engagement is part of STC's and its Artistic Director Michael Kahn's 25th Anniversary Season.

Rehearsals begin tomorrow, Thursday, February 9, for The Stratford Shakespeare Festival's hit production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. Directed by the Stratford Shakespeare Festival's Artistic Director and 2-time Tony Award winner Des McAnuff, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR opens March 22, 2012 (previews begin March 1) at the Neil Simon Theatre (250 West 52nd Street).

Stage Entertainment, in cooperation with Disney Theatrical Productions, will present the Dutch premiere of The Little Mermaid. After presenting Tarzan, Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King, the Netherlands is the first country to scoop the European premiere of the Disney musical. Disney's The Little Mermaid opens on Saturday May 12, premiering at Martini Plaza in Groningen and then playing larger theaters in the Netherlands. Casting will be announced soon.

Atlantic Theater Company has just announced that the world premiere production of Gabe McKinley's play CQ/CX, directed by Tony Award® nominee David Leveaux has been extended in advance of officially opening next week.

Paper Mill Playhouse has just announced casting for Damn Yankees, directed by Paper Mill Playhouse's Producing Artistic Director, Mark S. Hoebee, with choreography by Denis Jones. The cast features Howard McGillin (Applegate), Chryssie Whitehead (Lola), Christopher Charles Wood (Joe Hardy), Joseph Kolinski (Joe Boyd), Patti Cohenour (Meg Boyd) and Nancy Anderson (Gloria Thorpe). Damn Yankees begins performances on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, and runs at the Millburn, New Jersey theater through Sunday, April 1, 2012.

The Public Theater announced today that Alan Cumming, Montego Glover, Gabriel Kahane, Ethan Lipton, Kelli O'Hara, and Benjamin Walker would join the star-studded PUBLIC SINGS! benefit on Monday, March 5 at Joe's Pub. This unforgettable evening will celebrate the rich history of musicals produced by The Public Theater, including HAIR, A Chorus Line, and Caroline, or Change, as well as new musicals in development like February House premiering at The Public this May. On Broadway Scott has starred as Christine in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, garnering nominations for a Tony Award, a Drama Desk Award and an Outer Critics Circle Award; Amneris in Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida (2000), for which she won the Clarence Derwent Award and was a Drama League Honoree; Sally in Tommy (1993); Marty in Grease (1995-96); Maureen in Rent (1997); and originated the role of Ursula in The Little Mermaid (2007). In 2010 Scott starred in the critically acclaimed production Everyday Rapture, which Scott wrote with co-author Dick Scanlan. She most recently starred as Pepa in the musical adaptation of Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.

On Thursday, February 16, 2012, the company of Broadway's revival of Stephen Schwartz's rock musical GODSPELLwill welcome the musical director and conductor of the original Broadway production -- 'Late Show with David Letterman' musical director Paul Shaffer -- in a special cameo appearance.

Stephen Wadsworth's new production of Terrence McNally's Master Class starring Tyne Daly as the legendary opera soprano Maria Callas at the Vaudeville Theatre following its critically acclaimed, sell-out run on Broadway. Joining Daly are Gerard Carey (Stagehand), Jeremy Cohen (Emmanuel Weinstock), Naomi O'Connell (Sharon Graham), Dianne Pilkington (Sophie De Palma) and Garrett Sorenson (Anthony Candolino).

Theatre fans everywhere are already itching to see Les Misérables brought to the big screen, and though the film isn't due to hit theatres until December 7, rehearsals have already begun for the new movie. The Tony nominated Broadway vet will share a lifetime of show business experiences - from his early days starting out as a young actor in New York to working with legends like James Cagney, Peter O'Toole and Jack Lemmon. Joined by a live band, Gallagher brings his anecdotes to life with songs ranging from Broadway tunes, to music from his hit television show The OC, to classics by the likes of Van Morrison and Burt Bacharach. Peter Gallagher: Songs and Stories from an Actor's Life will benefit the Geffen Playhouse and The Actors Fund, for which Gallagher serves as the National Board of Advisors co-chair, and will be followed by a post-show reception.
