On Sunday, September 27, thousands of Broadway's biggest fans gathered at Pier 97 for what's being called the Coachella of show tunes - the first annual Elsie Fest, a day-long music festival celebrating songs from the stage and screen. Below, BroadwayWorld brings you highlights from the big day!

Broadway's Allegiance, a new musical inspired by Takei's true-life story, opens on November 8, 2015 at the Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street). Previews begin October 6. It features a book by Marc Acito and music and lyrics by Jay Kuo. Olivier Award nominee Stafford Arima (London's Ragtime, Off-Broadway's Bare, Carrie, Altar Boyz) directs. The company put on a press preview yesterday, and BroadwayWorld brings you interviews with the company and a sneak peek of the cast in action below!

Multi-platinum recording artist Josh Groban is bringing HEDWIG's Tony Award-winning actress Lena Hall on his Fall 2015 North American STAGES tour, which continues through early November. Happy Birthday, Stark Sands! In 2007, Sands received a nomination for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his role in the Broadway revival of Journey's End. Additional theater credits include the 2009 musical adaptation of Bonnie & Clyde at the La Jolla Playhouse, The Classic Stage Company's production of The Tempestwhich earned him the Actors' Equity Foundation's St. Clair Bayfield Award, which honors the best performance by an actor in a Shakespearean play in the New York metropolitan area. From June 25 to July 12, 2009, Sands appeared in the Shakespeare in the Park's production of Twelfth Night, featuring Anne Hathaway, Audra McDonald and Raul Esparza. Sands played the role of Tunny in the Broadway production of American Idiot. Most recently, Sand received a Tony nomination for playing Charlie Price, in the musical Kinky Boots, which opened on Broadway at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on April 4, 2013.

Career Transition For Dancers just held its 30TH ANNIVERSARY PEARL JUBILEE: A STAR-STUDDED RETROSPECTIVE last night, September 28.As a part of the festivities, Robert Fairchild, a New York City Ballet principal and the award-winning star of 'An American In Paris' performed 'A Tribute To Gene Kelly.' Deaf West Theatre's acclaimed production of Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik's SPRING AWAKENING, directed by Michael Arden and choreographed by Spencer Liff, opened on Sunday night, September 27, at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street). SPRING AWAKENING's strictly limited 18-week-only engagement started previews on September 8. In Away in a Hollow, beloved Broadway actress Marian Seldes creates a whimsical world of mystery, comedy and childlike innocence in a magical story about a caterpillar trying too hard to become a butterfly. With a lush musical score by composer Dennis Deal, and a read-along booklet with watercolor illustrations by Broadway scenic artist Richard W. Prouse,  Away in a Hollow is the perfect audio adventure for children of all ages.

Broadway fans celebrated the 29th Annual Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction by bidding on and buying everything from tickets to a bevy of opening night performances to custom-made music mixes, from autographed musical phrases to once-in-a-lifetime theatrical experiences. The result: a record $756,655 was raised for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

The cast of new musical DOCTOR ZHIVAGO, which opened on April 21st and closed on May 10th, 2015 at the Broadway Theatre, hit the recording studio this spring to prepare for the release of the show's original cast recording, which is now available via Broadway Records HERE. TRIP OF LOVE, the new dance musical spectacle celebrating the biggest hits of the '60s, officially opens on October 18, at Stage 42 (422 West 42nd St). American pop culture is still pulsing with the psychedelic energy of the Sixties, an era of expression and revolution around the world. The music told the story then and it will again this fall as Trip of Love brings the decade to life with 28 of the biggest hits of the '60s, including 'Blowin' In The Wind,' 'Born To Be Wild,' 'California Dreamin',' 'I Saw Her Standing There,' 'These Boots Are Made For Walkin',' 'White Rabbit,' 'You Don't Own Me' and many more.

National Asian Artists Project (Baayork Lee, Executive Artistic Director), will celebrate its 5th Anniversary of “showcasing the work of Asian-American theatre artists through performance, outreach and educational programming” on Monday, October 5th at 8pm at NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts (566 LaGuardia Place) with Past, Present & Future, a one-night-only Gala Benefit evening featuring a line-up of show-stopping wall-to-wall musical numbers from Broadway shows, highlights from past NAAP productions and current material, as well as what Ms. Lee hopes to stage in the future. Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts officially renamed its largest concert hall for entertainment icon and philanthropist David Geffen at a special ceremony today, as the New York Philharmonic opened its 2015-2016 season. Geffen's $100 million gift is the essential catalyst for the comprehensive renovation and re-imagination of the concert hall, a joint effort between Lincoln Center and the New York Philharmonic.

MCC Theater has just announced the the New York premiere of John Pollono's Lost Girls. Golden Globe nominated star of stage and screen, Piper Perabo-who recently completed five seasons of the USA's popular drama series 'Covert Affairs' for which she received a Golden Globe Award nomination, and was last seen onstage in the Broadway and MCC Theater productions of Neil LaBute's Reasons to be Pretty-stars alongside Ebon Moss-Bachrach(HBO's 'Girls'), Meghann Fahy (Next to Normal),Tasha Lawrence (Good People, The Whale), and newcomers Lizzy DeClement and Josh Green.

Happy Birthday, George Gershwin! Gershwin's compositions spanned both popular and classical genres, and his most popular melodies are widely known. Among his best known works are the orchestral compositions Rhapsody in Blue and An American in Paris, as well as the opera Porgy and Bess. Gershwin's music has been heard on the Broadway stage in Nice Work If You Can Get It, Crazy for You, and many more.

Today in 1979, Evita opened at the Broadway Theatre, where it ran for 1567 performances. Evita is a musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. It concentrates on the life of Argentine political leader Eva Peron, the second wife of Argentine president Juan Peron. The story follows Evita's early life, rise to power, charity work, and eventual death. Evita began as a rock opera concept album released in 1976. Its success led to productions in London's West End in 1978, and on Broadway a year later, both of which enjoyed considerable success. A major 1996 film of the musical starred Madonna and Antonio Banderas. In 2006, the musical was revived in London, and on Broadway in 2012.
