Rehearsals are underway for Cameron Mackintosh's acclaimed new production of Boublil and Schonberg's legendary musical Miss Saigon, which will return to its original home, The Broadway Theater (1681 Broadway) beginning performances Wednesday, March 1. The original production of Miss Saigon opened at the same theater on April 11, 1991 and played there through January 28, 2001.

AMELIE, A NEW MUSICAL will begin performances on Broadway on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 W 48th Street) and officially open Monday, April 3, 2017. Directed by Tony Award winner Pam Mackinnon (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?), AMELIE features a book by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award nominee Craig Lucas (The Light in the Piazza), music by Daniel Messe and lyrics by Nathan Tysen & Messe, and musical staging and choreography by Sam Pinkleton.

New York's Broadway and London's West End have long been the biggest destinations for live theater, and now, a new exhibition at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts honors the rich creative talent and award-winning productions in both cities. Co-curated by The Library for the Performing Arts and the V&A, where the exhibition debuted last year, in partnership with the Society of London Theatre (SOLT), Curtain Up: Celebrating the Last 40 Years of Theatre in New York and London highlights how the theatre districts of both cities have flourished and developed since 1976. The exhibition, which opened at The Library for the Performing Arts in Lincoln Center on October 31, 2016 and is on display through June 30, 2017.

She's coming back, and she'll never go away again! The upcoming revival of Michael Stewart and Jerry Herman's masterpiece Hello, Dolly!, starring legendary performer Bette Midler, has quickly become the hottest ticket of the year. Directed by four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks and choreographed by Tony Award winner Warren Carlyle, Hello, Dolly! will begin performances at Broadway's Shubert Theatre on March 15, 2017, with an official opening night of April 20, 2017. BroadwayWorld spoke with Kate Baldwin (Irene) last night at the opening of Sunset Boulevard, where she told us all about rehearsals so far!

The world premiere studio recording of Freaky Friday, the new musical based on the beloved novel by Mary Rodgers and two hit Disney films, will be released by Walt Disney Records digitally tomorrow (February 10) and physically on March 17. The studio recording can be pre-ordered here.

Performances began on Thursday, February 2, 2017, with an official opening night set for tonight, February 9, 2017. 

Award-winning actress Julie Andrews will star in Julie's Greenroom, a new preschool show from The Jim Henson Company that features an all-new puppet cast of kids learning about the performing arts. The series will be available exclusively to Netflix members globally in early 2017.

Jake Gyllenhaal makes his musical Broadway debut in the revival of Sunday in the Park with George, set to begin previews at the historic Hudson Theatre on February 11, and officially opening February 23rd. Today the company gathered to cut the ribbon on Broadway's newest (and oldest) theatre and take a break from rehearsals to tell us more about the show!

Just last month, Works & Process at the Guggenheim offered a behind-the-scenes look at War Paint, the new musical by librettist Doug Wright, composer Scott Frankel, lyricist Michael Korie, and director Michael Greif in advance of the Broadway opening on April 6, 2017. After 16 years away, Tony and Grammy Award winner Heather Headley returned triumphantly to Broadway last summer in The Color Purple. Having originated the role of Nala in The Lion King and awarded a Tony for Aida, the Trinidadian-American performer was rapidly rising to diva status when she shifted gears. In her time away from the theater, she released two gold records, topped the dance and R&B charts, won a Grammy for her gospel album, Audience of One, toured the world with Andrea Bocelli, and started a family. She blazed back in The Bodyguard in London before returning to Broadway.

It's Groundhog Day, and this year, it's about much more than the changing seasons. Earlier today the company of Groundhog Day, which begins previews Thursday, March 16 and opens Monday, April 17 at the August Wilson Theatre, met the press!

First up in Encores! 2017 season is Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the Tony Award-winning musical based on Mark Twain's classic American novel.
