Victory Gardens Theater, The League of Chicago Theatres, Silk Road Rising and Lifeline Theatre are collaborating on a new conversation series, Race and Representation in Chicago Theater, that will discuss the issues of race and representation in Chicago's theater community. The series, featuring panelists to include actors, playwrights and directors, will focus on the importance of cultivating, developing and producing work that "looks like Chicago," and will frame for both artists and audiences the importance of accurate representations in the work we experience together. Race and Representation in Chicago Theater comprises two events, Playing Race, to be hosted at Victory Gardens on Thursday, January 31 following the 7:30PM performance of Disconnect; and Building a Theatre of Inclusion: Perspectives on Asian American Casting and Producing, to be held at Silk Road Rising on Monday, February 18 at 7:00PM.

Cuban heat is coming to the Blue Note this March when Juan de Marcos and the Afro-Cuban All Stars stop by for a week on their U.S. tour. The Afro-Cuban All Stars Orchestra is a creation of acclaimed Cuban producer, Juan de Marcos Gonzalez, best known for his work with the Buena Vista Social Club. Emerging Pictures, the largest all-digital specialty film and alternative content network of theatres in the U.S., today announced that its scheduled presentation of the Bolshoi Ballet's new production of "The Rite of Spring" has been cancelled as the result of the attack on Bolshoi artistic director Sergei Filin. Earlier this month, Filin was savagely assaulted near his Moscow home by a masked attacker who threw acid in his face. He suffered third-degree burns and will very likely lose sight in one eye; his recovery will take at least six months.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey has announced the launch of The Shakespeare Theatre Academy, a new expansion of its already extensive education program offerings. Beginning in March, the Theatre will offer youth and adult classes in a wide range of disciplines connected with classic theatre. Each series of classes meets once a week and offers participants the opportunity to work under the instruction of The Shakespeare Theatre's renowned artistic and educational staff as well as guest teaching artists.
Playwrights from Switzerland, France, Canada, Egypt, Austria, Brazil, Italy, and Wales are all represented in the 4th annual International Voices Project (IVP 2013), running from March 7 to March 17 at Victory Gardens Theater in Chicago. The International Voices Project is the largest event of its kind in the country and introduces Chicago audiences to some of the most exciting voices on the international theater scene.

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly leads vocalist Ashley Brown in a performance of beloved Broadway hits on Thursday, February 21 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore and Friday, February 22 at 8 p.m., Saturday, February 23 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, February 24 at 3 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.
