Mantello Helms Baitz's THE OTHER DESERT CITIES at Lincoln Center in '10-'11; Opts out of Bway Run June 4, 2010The New York Times reports today that Jon Robin Baitz's THE OTHER DESERT CITIES, to be directed by Joe Mantello, will be produced at the Mitzi Newhouse Theatre at Lincoln Center off-Broadway in the 2010-2011 season. The production had been aiming for a Broadway run next year, however, the Baitz has now decided that show show is better suited for a smaller production at the moment, and will open at the Newhouse on January 13, 2011. Previews will begin on December 16, 2010.

An ode to the life changing events of his past year, the show makes light of O'Brien's resignation from his position as host of The Tonight Show in January 2010 for Jay Leno. O'Brien's settlement with NBC bars him from appearing on television as the host of a program until September 2010, however is permitted to perform before a live audience in a concert setting. 'Legally Prohibited' incorporates video bits from his past television segments, musical and comic performers, and cameo appearances by celebrities.

The website reports: '[China Arts and Entertainment Group] CAEG, which promotes Chinese-language productions of musical theatre masterpieces, signed the licensing agreement [with European music company Littlestar] at a ceremony in Beijing on Wednesday (June 2, 2010), and is now set to produce 'Mamma Mia!' 13th foreign-language version, following its original English...Zhang Yu, president of CAEG, said 'Mamma Mia!' will be the first worldwide musical masterpiece to be produced in Chinese...'
