Just last night,  Williamstown Theatre Festival held its annual Gala, honoring James Giddens and celebrating his steadfast support of New Musicals, featuring special appearances and performances from WTF favorites.

The Public Theater presents the world premiere of Ethan Lipton's The Outer Space, directed by Leigh Silverman. THE OUTER SPACE opened just last night, March 8 in Joe's Pub at The Public. The Outer Space features music composed and performed by Ethan Lipton, Vito Dieterle, Eben Levy, and Ian M. Riggs. 

Last night, Atlantic Theater Company presented their Annual Gala at The Pierre. Directors' Choice celebrated Atlantic's directors with a fabulous evening of unexpected songs, honoring Neil Pepe for his 25 years of artistic leadership.

Producers of the Tooting Arts Club production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street just announced that New York audiences can now 'attend the tale' through December 31, 2017 with a new block of tickets on sale today. Plus, a limited number of tickets at each performance (starting tonight!) will be available through a TodayTix digital lottery. Sweeney Todd, music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book byHugh Wheeler from an adaptation by Christopher Bond, and directed byBill Buckhurst, officially opened last night at the Barrow Street Theatre (27 Barrow Street).   

Linda, the new play by Penelope Skinner (The Ruins of Civilization at MTC, The Village Bike), directed by MTC's award-winning Artistic Director Lynne Meadow (The Assembled Parties, Wit), opened just last night, February 28, at MTC at New York City Center - Stage I (131 West 55th Street). Atlantic Theater Company presents the world premiere play The Penitent, by Atlantic's Pulitzer Prize-winning co-founder David Mamet, directed by artistic director Neil Pepe. The Penitent features Lawrence Gilliard Jr. ('The Walking Dead,' The Machinist, 'The Wire') and Atlantic Theater Company ensemble members Chris Bauer ('True Blood,' Broadway's A Streetcar Named Desire, 'The Wire'), Jordan Lage (Broadway's Glengarry Glen Ross, Speed-the-Plow, Race), and Rebecca Pidgeon (The Spanish Prisoner, 'The Unit,' Broadway's The Old Neighborhood).

Roundabout Theatre Company presents Steven Levenson's (The Unavoidable Disappearance of Tom Durnin; Dear Evan Hansen) new play, If I Forget, directed by Daniel Sullivan. The cast includes Larry Bryggman(Picnic), Maria Dizzia ('Orange is the New Black'), Tasha Lawrence (Good People), Jeremy Shamos (Noises Off), Seth Steinberg, Kate Walsh ('Grey's Anatomy'), and Gary Wilmes (Irrational Man). 

The world premiere Signature Theatre production of Everybody, written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and directed by Lila Neugebauer, runs now through March 19, 2017 and officially opened last night, February 21, on The Irene Diamond Stage at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues).

Rehearsals are underway for Cameron Mackintosh's acclaimed new production of Boublil and Schonberg's legendary musical Miss Saigon, which will return to its original home, The Broadway Theater (1681 Broadway) beginning performances Wednesday, March 1. The original production of Miss Saigon opened at the same theater on April 11, 1991 and played there through January 28, 2001.

Beginning one week after the election, Primary Stages commissioned a collection of over 70 pieces written by a diverse array of playwrights from their artistic community. Each artist crafted a short monologue from the perspective of a character in America on the morning of November 9th.  Undertaking MORNING IN AMERICA acutely reflects the responsibility and capability of a non-profit, artist-focused organization to respond directly and rapidly to current events. Through readings, talk-backs and roundtable discussions, Primary Stages strives to create an accessible and energetic space where artists and audiences can come together as a community to share their stories and process their experiences.

Audiences have a final chance to 'Seize the Day!' - tickets are now available for 'Disney's Newsies: The Broadway Musical!,' playing in U.S. movie theaters for three days only on Thursday, February 16 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday February 18 at 12:55 p.m. and Wednesday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. (all local times). Captured live at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre earlier this year, the event reunites original cast members Jeremy Jordan, Kara Lindsay, Andrew Keenan-Bolger, and Ben Fankhauser.

Jake Gyllenhaal makes his musical Broadway debut in the revival of Sunday in the Park with George, set to begin previews at the historic Hudson Theatre on February 11, and officially opening February 23rd. Just yesterday the company gathered to cut the ribbon on Broadway's newest (and oldest) theatre!

Just last night, the company of IN TRANSIT celebrated a milestone performance at the Circle in the Square Theatre. BroadwayWorld was on hand as they commemorated 100 performances on Broadway with 100 Schmackary's cookies!

The annual KLEBAN PRIZE FOR MUSICAL THEATRE presentation took place just yesterday, February 6 at ASCAP.  Some of Broadway's legendary musical theatre creators and young-up-and-comers will come out to honor the two prize winners, perform some of their material, and present their prizes at a food and drink reception hosted by ASCAP and BMI. 

Ghostlight Records and the cast of Broadway's FALSETTOS celebrated the cast album of the critically acclaimed Broadway revival of William Finn and James Lapine's Tony Award-winning musical - based on the Lincoln Center Theater production - with a special in-store performance and CD signing at Barnes & Noble, Friday, January 27 at 7:00 PM. Playwrights Horizons will soon present THE LIGHT YEARS, the world premiere of a new play written by Drama Desk Award winner Hannah Bos (The Open House, Jacuzzi, Blood Play, Buddy Cop 2) and Obie Award winner Paul Thureen (Jacuzzi, Blood Play, Buddy Cop 2), directed and developed by Obie Award winner Oliver Butler (Jacuzzi, The Open House, Blood Play), made by The Debate Society. The production will be the fourth production of the theater company's 2016/2017 Season.

Atlantic Theater Company's world premiere play Tell Hector I Miss Him by Paola Lazaro, directed by David Mendizabal, will play through February 19 at Atlantic Stage 2 (330 West 16th Street), where it just opened last night.

Members of the cast and creative team of NATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 and author Steven Suskin celebrated the release of the book The Great Comet: The Journey of a New Musical to Broadway at Barnes & Noble and BroadwayWorld was there to capture the event!

Another milestone was reached just yesterday at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. The company of Beautiful celebrated three years on Broadway and BroadwayWorld was there for all the fun. Check out photos below!
