The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will screen 'Tarzan and His Mate' (1934) and 'Tarzan Finds a Son!' (1939), and explore the secrets behind the making of these two jungle classics on Saturday, October 16, and Sunday, October 24, respectively, at the Academy's Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood. Presented by the Academy's Science and Technology Council, 'Me Tarzan, You Technology: The Magic of Tarzan in the Movies' will be hosted by Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor and Academy governor Craig Barron, with special guest Oscar-winning sound designer Ben Burtt. This mid-career survey presents a selection of Fred Tomaselli's unique hybrid paintings and collages from 1990 to the present. The artist created two artworks specifically for the Brooklyn Museum presentation, Night Music for Raptors and Starling. Both paintings are large-scale painting collages that continue Tomaselli's recent exploration of individual birds. Also making their U.S. debut in the Brooklyn presentation is a group of twelve recently created works on paper. With gouache and collage, Tomaselli transforms the front page of The New York Times and uses it as a backdrop for his pictorial interventions. This year's thirty-show lineup features a range of talent, covering everything from sketch comedy to musical theater to ventriloquist rock, all on the Ars Nova stage! Conceived as a way of offering emerging artists of all kinds a point of entry into the New York arts community, this year's shows were selected from an open submission process that drew nearly 200 applicants. Now in its third year, the festival of All New Talent has quickly established itself as the premier destination to catch an eclectic mix of brand new music, theater and comedy shows. It has also become an important first step in the development process of various projects, such as Seven Minutes in Heaven (ANT Fest 2009; HERE Arts Center Spring 2010), Songs of a Night Owl (ANT Fest 2009, Berkshire Theater Festival Summer 2010 as Pool Boy), Samuel and Alasdair (ANT Fest 2009, 2010 NY Independent Theater Award for Outstanding Production of a Play), and Ithaca (ANT Fest 2008, sold out Joe's Pub run in 2009). In addition to the thirty ANT Fest shows, Ars Nova will also be offering its hit variety show, Showgasm, throughout the Fest. Featuring a mix of current and previous Fest artists, the first installation will be a special ANT Fest Kickoff Showgasm, at 8pm on October 18. As the leaders of the world convened at The United Nations, Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment hosts another international event in New York. A new training program has been established between Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment and China's Ministry of Culture under the title of 'Cultural Trade & Industry Exchange Program'; the first session was launched September 19th - 24th, 2010. This delegation comes from China's central and local cultural bureaus representing ten Chinese Provinces/Municipalities including Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Guangxi, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shenzhen, Sichuan, Hunan and Chongqing. This series of bilateral culture educational programs is designed to introduce China's theatre professionals, policy makers and educational experts to the business process of the Broadway industry. The six day, intensive series of seminars and theatre tours featured a delegation from Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment, and a team of Broadway industry experts.
