Invisible Targets critically examines the treatment of pregnant bodies within the Western healthcare system, with a specific focus on the experiences of women who have endured stillbirth. The performance seamlessly integrates movement, storytelling, and objects to bring these narratives to life. In this devised solo performance, the narrative unfolds as the story of a grieving mother attempting to unravel the events during her hospital stay, where her child was stillborn. This piece juxtaposes the stark realities of the medical healthcare system with the intimate journey of a bereaved mother navigating societal stigma. Informed by a report from Mothers’ Voices and the Ockenden Review, an investigation of two maternity services in England, as well as auto-ethnographic experiences, this performance examines maternity care and the taboo surrounding the topic of stillbirth.
