2025 AWARDS SEASON

The 2015 Tony Awards will be broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City, on Sunday, June 7th on CBS. Below, check out some fun facts about this year's nominees!

'I was asleep through the announcement today! Especially because I'm in New Orleans right now. I'm in a car on my way to the airport. I skipped out of town quickly because I wanted to recharge my batteries so I came down here to refuel and now I'm heading back to join what I'm sure is a really happy bunch of people. I'm possibly even more excited because so many of us are acknowledged. It underlines what a communal effort it is and such an extremely talented bunch of artists. I hope it means that people who haven't heard about it will at least look at the acknowledgements and say, "They must be doing something right!" I'm not saying that there wont be champagne on the flight back today! The absolute best way to celebrate is to tell our story tonight with these people who I've become so close to. It's the absolute best!'

'It is a honor to be nominated and to become a part of the grand tradition of American theatre. I am very lucky that I speak American! Albeit in the play with a very British accent. It is a very exciting season on Broadway, with many great plays, musicals, and performances, so just to be a part of that is a thrill.'

Later this morning, Bruce Willis and Mary-Louise Parker will announce the 2015 Tony Award Nominations LIVE from the Paramount Hotel's Diamond Horseshoe in New York City, but another question still remains...who will host the ceremony in June? According to today's New York Post, the Tonys have tapped stage and screen stars Kristin Chenoweth (currently starring On the Twentieth Century) and Alan Cumming for the job.

The full list of winners are announced today in the inaugural Also Recognised Awards, the new audience-voted, industry accolade set up by theatre commentators Mark Shenton and Terri Paddock to celebrate lesser-known but equally worthy talent in fields overlooked by other awards bodies. Over a month's voting, more than 15,000 people took part.

It's a big day for Tony Awards news, less than 24 hours from tomorrow morning's nominations! The Tony Awards® Administration Committee hasjust  announced Stephen Schwartz as this year's recipient for the Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award.

The Drama League has announced that the star of Broadway's smash production of Hand to God, Steven Boyer, 2015 Drama League Distinguished Performance nominee, will host the upcoming 81st Annual Drama League Awards, alongside his special guest Tyrone.  One of the high points of the season, the Drama League Awards Luncheon will be held on Friday, May 15, 2015 at the Marriott Marquis Times Square (1535 Broadway) beginning at 12:00 p.m.  Official sponsors for the 81st Annual Drama League Awards include Delta Air Lines, the Official Airline of The Drama League; MAC Cosmetics, the Official Makeup Partner of The Drama League; National Life Group; and GenSpring Family Offices. The Tony Awards® Administration Committee has announced that John Cameron Mitchell will receive the 2015 Special Tony Award. "John's return to 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch' is one for the history books. He not only wrote and co-created the role with Stephen Trask - before directing and starring in the film - but returned to Broadway to star as Hedwig this season after a series of rave performances by Neil Patrick Harris, Andrew Rannells and Michael C. Hall. This is a remarkable undertaking, and we are honored to recognize his outstanding success with this honor," Heather Hitchens, President of the American Theatre Wing, and Charlotte St. Martin, Executive Director of The Broadway League, said. John Cameron Mitchell's New York stage appearances included Broadway's Big River, and the original casts of The Secret Garden (Drama Desk nomination) and Six Degrees of Separation. Off-Broadway: Larry Kramer's The Destiny of Me (Obie Award and Drama Desk nom.) and Michael John LaChiusa's Hello Again (Drama Desk nom.). He adapted and directed Tennessee Williams' Kingdom of Earth starring Cynthia Nixon and Peter Sarsgaard and starred in and wrote the book for the 1998 Off-Broadway production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch (directed by Peter Askin) for which he won an Obie Award along with co-creator/songwriter Stephen Trask. The film adaptation (2001) won him Best Director at Sundance and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. He directed Shortbus (2006) and Rabbit Hole (2011) adapted from David Lindsay-Abaire's Pulitzer Prize-winning play and starring Nicole Kidman in an Oscar-nominated performance. He recently appeared in HBO's Girls and is preparing to direct a film adaptation of Neil Gaiman's punk-era story How to Talk to Girls at Parties starring Elle Fanning and Nicole Kidman. The Film Society of Lincoln Center previously announced that Barbra Streisand (recipient of the 40th Chaplin Award) would present the 42nd Chaplin Award to Academy Award-winner Robert Redford, director, actor, producer, environmentalist, and founder of the Sundance Film Festival and Institute, honored at Lincoln Center tonight, April 27.

?The Downtown Urban Theater Festival announces that acclaimed playwright/director/actor Danny Hoch will receive the 2015 DUTF Playwright Masters Award at this year's Opening Night event, which will take place on Tuesday, May 12th at 8:00 p.m. at 40/40 Club (6 West 25th Street, NYC). 

The Tony Awards Administration Committee has announced this year's recipient for the Regional Theatre Tony Award is Cleveland Play House in Cleveland, OH.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced the national awardees of the 47th annual Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), which was held April 13-18, 2015.

Earlier today, Judith Light and Jessie Mueller announced nominations for the 60th Annual Drama Desk Awards. The winners of the 2015 New York Drama Critics' Circle Awards will be announced Monday, May 4,2015 at 6pm. The selections will be made at the organization's 80th annual voting meeting, at the offices of Time Out New York in Manhattan.

While the sky may have been a little cloudy, the stars were shining bright at The Hobby Center as Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) celebrated the 13th Annual Tommy Tune Awards showcasing Houston's extraordinary and remarkable high school musical theatre talent. Sarofim Hall was practically filled to the brim, with over 400+ students, their directors and choreographers, and parents and friends. The nerves and excitement could hardly be ignored, as everyone sat in anticipation for the show to start. As Caroline Timm, Assistant Manager of PR & Marketing put it, 'this show is like the Tonys for these kids.' As the lights went down, the entire room burst out in applause and cheers, which would stop only momentarily throughout the night.

ArtsBridge Foundation, the arts education outreach arm of the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, presents the 2015 Georgia High School Musical Theater Awards - Shuler Hensley Awards. Twenty four (24) public and private schools from throughout the state were nominated in 17 categories. The awards, which showcase the next generation of Georgia's musical theater talent, will be presented live at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre tonight, April 23 in an Awards Show hosted by WSB-TV's Fred Blankenship and Wendy Corona.

The 2015 Tommy Tune Awards winners have been announced! To a crowd of over 2,600 people, Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) declared the winners of the 13th annual Tommy Tune Awards on April 21 at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts.

Theatre East will present Elizabeth Parrish with the Laurette Taylor Award on Thursday, May 28th at Ramscale Studio South, 463 West Street, in the West Village Highline district, NYC. The benefit starts at 7pm with an exclusive cocktail reception, followed by dinner at 8pm. The award will be presented to Ms. Parrish by Kate Mulgrew (Orange is the New Black).

Today, theatrical sound designers Lindsay Jones and John Gromada announce that they will be throwing a Tony night party for the entire theatre sound community and all of their collaborators called The Collaborator Party. This will be a special event designed to celebrate the artistry of sound designers this year as well the community that has grown out of the response to the recent decision by the Tony Awards to eliminate the awards for Best Sound Design of a Play and Best Sound Design of a Musical.
