Please prepare two brief contrasting monologues. If you are singing, please prepare one monologue and one song. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring a picture & resume, stapled together.

Dr. Ruth: CAST. Ruth K. Westheimer at 69 years old. Famous and renowned Sex Therapist. Vivacious, well spoken (with a unique mixture of German, French, Israeli and American dialects).

STEEL MAGNOLIAS
by Robert Harling. Dir: TBA. 1st reh: 9/25/18. Runs 10/16-11/7. Possible extension: 11/11/18. In The Historic Arcade Theatre.
Note: The play takes place in Louisiana; dialects will be used.
Truvy Jones: 35-45. Owns and operates Truvy’s Beauty Shop, vivacious, warm, outgoing, great sense of humor, loves to give advice and take care of others.
Annelle Dupuy-Desoto: 19. Truvy’s newly hired assistant. Introverted, shy, unsure yet becomes almost wild and rebellious and then religious.
Clairee Belcher: 60-70. Widow of former mayor, grande dame, elegant, sophisticated and wealthy. A caretaker and kind, faithful friend, wicked sense of humor.
Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie: Early 20s. Prettiest girl in town, strong-willed, passionate, loves the color pink.
M'lynn Eatenton: 45-55. Shelby’s mother. Socially prominent career woman always knows what is best, strong-willed, stubborn. Will do anything for her family.
Ouiser Boudreaux: 60-70. Wealthy, curmudgeon. Acerbic but loveable, tough, eccentric.

Hassan: Male. 35-40. Somali-American man who came to the US when he was a young boy. He does not speak with any sort of accent. An airport shuttle van driver. Broke and worried about money. Good heart, kind, helpful.
Lloyd: Male. 19. Caucasian. A student at University of Minnesota. Engaging and likable, but is hiding some deeper more dangerous motives. Good looking, all-American, college boy.
Davis/Maynard/Conklin/Whitaker: Female. 30s-40s. Plays multiple characters both male and female with honesty and depth.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL: The Tale of Ebenezer Scrooge
adapted by Mark Shanahan from the story by Charles Dickens. Dir: Mark Shanahan. 1st reh: 11/06/18. Runs 11/27–12/19. Possible Extension: 12/23 In the Historic Arcade Theatre.
Note: The action takes place in an around Dickensian London. Various British dialects will be uses. Seeking comic actors to play multiple roles and who are comfortable singing and dancing. Most players will also narrate the play. Looking for performers with great comic chops, physical awareness, and command of language. Seeking actors of all races and ethnicities.
Adult Actors
Actor 1: Male. 50s-60s. Plays Ebenezer Scrooge. The greedy humbug. A cold-hearted miser whose life of lost love and disappointment has made him a recluse who finds solace in counting his money.
Actor 2: Male. 30s-40s. Plays Bob Cratchit and others. Cratchit is Scrooge’s one employee. A kind hearted and gentle man with a family to feed. Grateful despite his low position in life.
Actor 3: Male. 30s-40s. Plays Scrooge’s sweet and good-natured nephew, Fred; and Dick Wilkins, who was Scrooge’s friend when he started in business. Plays others.
Actor 4: Female. 50-60s. A character actress who Mrs. Dilber the laundress, Mrs. Fezziwig, and others.
Actor 5: Male 40s-50s. A character actor who plays the ghost of Jacob Marley, Mr. Fezziwig, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, and others.
Actor 6: 40s. Plays Scrooge’s sister, Fan, and others.
Actor 7: 30s-40s. An everywoman to play Mrs. Cracthit and Belle, who is Scrooge’s lost love.
Actor 8: Male. 40s. Character actor to play the larger than life Ghost of Christmas Present, Old Joe a pawn shop owner, and others.
Actor 9: Male. 30-50s. Male. Onstage pianist who will play various roles.
Actor 10: Female. 20s-30s. Onstage violinist who plays Catherine, Fed’s wife. And others.

Rosemary Clooney: 40. Singer, film actress, wife, mother. Going through a breakdown and confronting a crisis in her life through therapy. Famous, beautiful, talented with a unique and sultry singing voice.
The Doctor (Dr. Victor Monke): 40-60. Psychiatrist, Rosemary’s Therapist, Also portrays: Rosemary’s sister, mother, uncle, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and various other roles. Seeking a strong character actor and musical theatre performer.

AUGUST WILSON’S FENCES
by August Wilson. Dir: Benny Sato Ambush. 1st reh: 12/18/18. Runs 1/08/19–1/30/19. Possible extension: 2/03/19. In The Historic Arcade Theatre.
Troy Maxson: 53. Born 1904. Garbage collector. Physically large with a huge, dominating life force, an African warrior spirit, and big laugh. Everything about him is big. He’s magnificent and flawed. A former baseball star in the Negro Leagues, his skills diminished with age before major league baseball’s color barrier opened up to blacks. Thus, his life potential was fenced in and truncated by racism, circumstances, unfortunate timing, and personal choices. A denied man who now sees life as a contest, like the game of baseball, and battles opponents he deems are out to defeat him. He has not reconciled his lost dreams with the changing times that have somewhat improved the lives of black people. He can be crude, resentful and bitter as well as poetic. A responsible family provider. Works hard. Plays hard. Stubborn, passionate, funny. A dazzling, hypnotic storyteller. He muscles his way through life. He “cut down to size the big world so’s he could handle it.” A proponent of tough love. A race man. In his effort to protect his son, Cory, from similar hurts he endured, he ruins his son’s chance to fulfill his dreams. This blindness is part of his tragic flaw.
Rose: 43. Troy’s wife and mother to his second child, Cory. The great compromiser trying to hold her family together. Compassionate. Loving. Christian. Determined. Patient. Lonely. Formidable inner strength. Pragmatic. Hopeful.
Bono: 50. Troy’s longtime friend and side kick of 30 years. A follower who greatly admires Troy as a role model. Content to be Troy’s wingman. Warm, funny, supportive, responsible, principled, truthful. An honest family man. Committed to Troy and deeply cares for him, Rose, and Cory. The voice of truthfulness and conscience unafraid to speak the truth however difficult it is to say..
Gabriel: 46. Troy’s brother. Has a metal plate in his head from a World War II injury. Believes he is the Archangel Gabriel (who in Biblical tradition, was God's messenger who foretold the births of John the Baptist and Jesus; he revealed the Qur'an to Muhammad). Eccentric with inexplicable behavior. He’s not crazy; he’s special and lives in a different dimension. He speaks with the ancestors and has a deep spiritual connection to them. Has an innocence to him.
Lyons: 34. Troy’s oldest son by his first wife. A wannabe musician with a committed relationship. He juggles his responsibility to his mate with flirtations with the fast lane of a musician’s life. Fun-loving, loose. Quick rhythmed. On the slick side living undercover with his shady dealings. He gambles. Takes short cuts in life. Looking to belong in the world.
Cory: 17. Troy and Rose’s son. A promising football athlete trying his damndest to please his demanding father. Afraid of Troy at first. Wants to break free and assert his independence. On the verge of young manhood. Bursting to prove what’s inside him.
Raynell: Age 7. Troy’s daughter to another woman. Youthful sweetness personified.

Judith Bliss: 45-55. English theatrical actress. Dramatic, over the top, seductive, eccentric wife and mother.
David Bliss: 50-60. English writer. Husband and father. Intelligent, teasing, flippant, self-centered.
Sorel Bliss: 19. Female. Daughter of Judith and David Bliss. English socialite, posh, wealthy, flirtatious, argumentative, self-centered, passionate.
Simon Bliss: Early 20’s. Son of Judith and David Bliss and Brother to Sorel. English Bohemian artist, bickering, self-centered.
Clara: 50-60. Housekeeper and maid but almost a part of the family. Loyal, faithful, tolerant and patient.
Richard Greatham: 50-60. English Diplomat. Weekend guest at the Bliss home. Posh, confident, good-mannered.
Sandy Tyrell: Male. 30-40. English boxer. Weekend guest of the Bliss’. Kind, confident gentleman who is good-humored and well mannered.
Myra Arundel: 20-30. Weekend guest at the Bliss home. Independent, assured, tough, outspoken.
Jackie Coryton: 20’s. Weekend guest of the Bliss’. English flapper. Young, sweet, innocent, naïve yet unsure.

Johnny Cash: Mid 20s. Guitar player, a giant of American music at the dawn of his epic career. Dark and brooding.
Elvis Presley: Early 20s. Male. Guitar, the first and still undisputed King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
Sam Phillips: 30s. Male. The Father of Rock ‘n’ Roll and founder of Sun Records; discovered Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and many others, including Roy Orbison and B.B. King; a towering and charismatic figure in American music.
Dyanne: Mid 20s. Female. An aspiring singer, Elvis’ girlfriend.
Brother Jay: Mid 20s. Bass Player. Carl Perkins’ brother.
