JENNA – Female, 20s-30s, Any ethnicity. A woman stuck in her life as an unhappily married waitress in a small town. Finds some happiness and expression through her meticulous baking of pies and her friendships with her coworkers, Dawn and Becky. She lives her life paycheck-to-paycheck, day by day, and wants nothing more than to get away and start fresh, unbeknownst to her destructive husband, Earl. Has a fantastic pop/rock voice with great range. The role will be understudied.
DAWN – Female, 20s, Any ethnicity. She's the youngest of the waitresses. Thick glasses and hair parted 14 centimeters to the left — eccentric is the nice way to say she’s slightly unusual and not so slightly OCD. She sets the tables, painstakingly ensuring each salt and pepper shaker is equidistant from the napkin holder. Has an excellent pop/rock/folk voice. The role will be understudied.
BECKY – Female, late 30s-early 50s, Black. The oldest of the three waitresses. Irreverent, irascible, been there, made it back, and somehow kept her forward and sometimes wicked sense of humor with excellent comedic timing. Has a soulful pop voice with an excellent pop belt. The role will be understudied.
DR. POMATTER – Male, 30s-early 40s, Any ethnicity. Handsome, endearing, and neurotic with a warm, if clumsy, matter. Jenna’s gynecologist with whom an unexpected extramarital affair is born. He has a quirky sense of humor and a big heart, even though he’s contributing to the affair. Dances or moves well. Has a powerful pop/rock tenor that can easily navigate Sara Bareilles's musical style. The role will be understudied.
EARL – Male, 20s-30s, Any ethnicity. Jenna’s husband. Peaked in high school, handsome in a gruff way, but that face is clouded with broken dreams, drowned with cheap beer. Just enough narcissism mixed with stupidity to be a potent Molotov cocktail that can explode into unexpected anger one second and then turn into a sobbing mess the next. Plays guitar. The role will be understudied.
OGIE – Male, 30s, Any ethnicity. Strange, yet oddly lovable. He becomes slightly obsessed with Dawn (in a hilarious yet endearing way) after she goes on a 5-minute date with him. Quirky, incredibly persistent, and odd, yet kind. Has excellent comedic timing and an excellent pop/rock tenor voice. The role will be understudied.
JOE – Male, 60s-70s, Any ethnicity. The owner of the diner where Jenna, Dawn, Becky, and Cal work. A seemingly old, curmudgeonly man with a soft spot for Jenna (and her pie), but picks when that warmth allows itself to be shown. A sarcastically funny and no-nonsense guy with a keen ability to read people. Very funny. The role will be understudied.
CAL – Male, 40s, Any ethnicity. A chef at the diner. A “Salt of the Earth” guy’s guy surrounded by gals. Brash, impatient, unsentimental, but somehow charming. Has a strong pop/rock voice with incredible comedic chops. Has a strong contemporary baritone singing voice in Sara Bareilles's style and excellent comedic timing. The role will be understudied.

DOROTHY GALE – Female, 18-25 to play a teen, Any race/ethnicity. Young Kansas girl, earnest, expressive, and strong-willed, searching for something more. A dynamic vocalist who moves well. Mezzo/Mix. The role will be understudied.
HUNK / SCARECROW – Male, 25-45, Any race/ethnicity. Plucky and clever in a pinch, even while lacking a brain. Has an honest quality. Excellent dancer, with acrobatic skills — strong baritone to F. The role will be understudied.
HICKORY / TIN MAN – Male, 25-45, Any race/ethnicity. Desperate for a heart. A kind-hearted romantic. Dancer or experienced mover with strong baritone/tenor to G. The role will be understudied.
ZEKE / COWARDLY LION – Male, 25-45, Any race/ethnicity. A mix of bravado and cowardice. Has excellent comic timing. Experienced mover and strong baritone to F. The role will be understudied.
ALMIRA GULTCH / WICKED WITCH – Female, 25-60, Any race/ethnicity. Character villain with an over-the-top stage presence. Has a killer cackle. Sings comically but doesn't have to sound good. The role will be understudied.
PROFESSOR MARVEL / THE WIZARD – Male, 50-65, Any race/ethnicity. Older father figure with an eccentric flair. NOTE: Basic conjuring or sleight of hand is a bonus. Non-Singing. The role will be understudied.
AUNT EM / GLINDA – Female, 25-45, Any race/ethnicity. The Good Witch of the North. Benevolent and beloved. Excellent soprano with a lovable stage presence. The role will be understudied.
UNCLE HENRY / EMERALD CITY GUARD – Male, 40-60, Any race/ethnicity. Dorothy’s pleasant uncle. Has a significant presence. Baritone. The role will be understudied.

FRENCHY – Female, 18 – 25 (to play high school teen), Any race/ethnicity. A dreamer; good-natured but not too bright. She is heavily made-up and fussy about her appearance, particularly her hair. She can't wait to finish high school to be a beautician. Alto.
MARTY – Female, 18 – 25 (to play high school teen), Any race/ethnicity. The 'beauty' of the Pink Ladies. She is pretty and looks older than the other girls, but she betrays her actual age when she opens her mouth. She tries to act sophisticated. Alto.
JAN – Female, 18 – 25 (to play high school teen), Any race/ethnicity. Funny, loud, compulsive eater and awkward member of the Pink Ladies. Loud and pushy with the girls but shy with the boys. Alto.
DOODY – Male, 18 – 25 (to play high school teen), Any race/ethnicity. The youngest of the guys is a tenor. He is small, boyish, and open, with a disarming smile and a hero-worshipping attitude toward the other guys. He also plays the guitar.
KENICKIE – Male, 18 – 25 (to play high school teen), Any race/ethnicity. The second in command of the Burger Palace Boys; tough-looking, tattooed, surly, and avoids any show of softness. He has an offbeat sense of humor. Tenor.
SONNY LATIERRI – Male, 18 – 25 (to play high school teen), Any race/ethnicity. A member of the Burger Palace Boys, a funny Italian American, he is a braggart and wheeler-dealer who thinks he's a real lady-killer. Baritone.
ROGER – Male, 18 – 25 (to play high school teen), Any race/ethnicity. The anything-for-a-laugh stocky type of boy, a clown who enjoys winding people up, is full of mischief and always dreams up half-baked schemes and ideas. Tenor.
VINCE FONTAINE – Male, 25 – 30, Any race/ethnicity. A typical 'teen audience' disc jockey is slick, egotistical, and fast-talking. He is also a veteran 'Greaser.'

EUGENE FLORCZYK – Male, 18 – 25 (to play high school teen), Any race/ethnicity. The class valedictorian - physically awkward, with weak eyes and a high-pitched voice. He's a typical 'apple polisher' - smug and pompous but gullible. Tenor.
JOHNNY CASINO – Male, 18 – 25 (to play high school teen), Any race/ethnicity. All-American, rock-star “greaser” student at Rydell High, whose real name is Clarence. Tenor.
MISS LYNCH – Female, 30-60, Any race/ethnicity. A no-nonsense, severe, loud English teacher.
PATTY SIMCOX – Female, 18 – 25 (to play high school teen), Any race/ethnicity. A stereotypical cheerleader. Sure of herself but can be given bursts of disconcerting enthusiasm. She's a bit of a pain, unpopular with the Pink Ladies, and can twirl a baton. Alto.
