Singers who dance for the ensemble in upcoming Broadway production. Characters are all vocal ranges, types, ethnicities, ages 20s to 50s.

Preparation
Please prepare 16-bars of a contemporary musical theatre song that shows personality. Bring sheet music; accompanist provided.

Bring picture and resume.

Breakdown

MALE ENSEMBLE
Characters are men, 20s – 50s; ALL ethnicities; ensemble is made up of performers of all shapes and sizes who will play various characters throughout, including but not limited to Oompa-Loompas, news reporters, etc. The Oompas must be extremely strong dancers with great technique; big personalities, comic skills and excellent singers with versatile, characterful voices of all ranges and types. Ensemble men will cover various principal roles (listed below).

FEMALE ENSEMBLE
Characters are women, 20s – 50s; ALL ethnicities; ensemble is made up of performers of all shapes and sizes who will play various characters throughout, including but not limited to Oompa-Loompas, news reporters, Grandma Josephine, etc. The Oompas must be extremely strong dancers with great technique; big personalities, comic skills, and excellent singers with versatile, characterful voices of all ranges and types. Ensemble women will cover various principal roles (listed below)

PRINCIPAL ROLES COVERED BY THE ENSEMBLE SINGERS:

WILLY WONKA
Male, 40s; any ethnicity. The sly, charming, eternally youthful star of the show. Lithe, eccentric, and remarkably physical. Must have the ability to be filled with boundless energy and be physically light on his feet . Has a larger than life persona that can go from charming and comical, to magically mysterious and dark. Baritone/tenor voice. PRINCIPAL

GRANDPA JOE
Male, 60+; any ethnicity. Impish, remarkably physical (dance skills a plus), he is Charlie’s imaginative, fun, kind and loving grandfather. After many years being confined to a bed, his childish energy returns when Charlie finds the Golden Ticket. PRINCIPAL

AUGUSTUS GLOOP
Short, youthful ADULT male 18+ to play 9-12 year old boy; any ethnicity. Round and full-faced, but rampantly over-active despite his size. Speaks with a German accent. Excellent singer and comic actor. PRINCIPAL

MRS. GLOOP
Female, 30s-40s; any ethnicity. Augustus’s German, moronic, Wagnerian mother. A huge presence with a huge voice. Mirthlessly smiles as though it were affixed to the front of her face. Fantastic singer and comedienne. Mezzo. PRINCIPAL

MR. SALT
Male, 30s-40s; any ethnicity. Veruca’s tall, goofy, eccentric, distracted, hilarious father. Finds it impossible to say no, giving in to every ridiculous demand his daughter makes. Excellent comic actor with a baritone singing voice. PRINCIPAL

VIOLET BEAUREGARD
Short, youthful ADULT female 18+ to play a 9-12 year old girl. African-American. While she’s physically tiny, she has a huge pop/R&B voice, as well as amazing hip-hop dance skills. Confident, forward, and full of attitude. Great singer. PRINCIPAL

MR. BEAUREGARD
Male, 30s-40s. African-American. Violet’s ineffectual father. Ignores his back-talking, insult-hurling daughter. Great dancer with a soul/pop/R&B voice. Beat-boxing skills a plus. PRINCIPAL

MRS. TEAVEE
Female, 30s-40s; any ethnicity. She needs amphetamines to get through the day and deal with her outrageous son. Tense, extreme, and hilarious. Great singer. PRINCIPAL
