Stephen Sorokoff

Stephen is also the cabaret/ music and co-theatre editor of the Times Square Chronicles. He studied at the Manhattan School of Music. Besides being a pianist, Stephen’s business career was in the Fashion Industry. He was CEO of a textile manufacturing facility and President of an international textile machinery company. Stephen was on the Board of Directors of the “First All Children’s Theatre” which brought the Stephen Schwartz musical The Trip and Captain Louie to the Kennedy Center in Wash DC. His wife Eda, an interior space designer and classical pianist is Board Emeritus at Board of Barrington Stage Company and is still active at BSC. Stephen’s articles and photographs, appear on Broadwayworld.com, Times Square Chronicles where is is the music editor.  He is a voting member of the Berkshire Theatre Critics Association. The ASCAP Foundation Awards Ceremony was held at The Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center and Broadwayworld was there. This years recipient of the Masters Award was composer John Corigliano. Mr. Corigliano has also won fiver Grammy's a Pulitzer Prize the Grawemeyer Award and an Academy Award for his many scores and compositions. Rupert Holmes, Composer, Playwright, lyricist, mystery novelist, arranger-conductor, screenwriter, record producer and singer-songwriter received the Foundations George M. Cohan Award which is made possible by the Friars Foundation.

There were some temporary fences set up around The Carlyle yesterday. I knew that Steve Tyrell who's appearing in the Cafe was selling out, and it was a difficult ticket but this wasSunday night his day off. I guess it was to control the entry into Bemelmans where Jim Caruso and Billy Stritch have been entertaining overflow crowds. Of course it was for Prince William and Duchess Kate who are staying at The Carlyle during there visit to New York City.

The Carlyle, a Rosewood Hotel, continues to be home court for Jim Caruso & Billy Stritch. They are back at Bemelmans Bar for an extended Sunday night residency. The performances build upon their recent run of shows in the intimate, storied New York City lounge, favorites not only of music fans and critics, but also of fellow artists. Jim Caruso & Billy Stritch shows are a place where some of the city's foremost entertainers go to commune with their own-and sometimes sit-in for a song or two-on their nights off. The pair will be at Bemelmans with their evening of swinging standards Sunday nights, through Dec. 31st. Dropping in Sunday night were Ron Abel and Chuck Steffan creators of 'Hazel' a new musical bound for Broadway. Jane Monheit joined Billy & Jim for some great vocals as Giselle Wolf and Eda Sorokoff looked on approvingly

Ted Rosenthal may probably be able to play Gershwin's music with more accuracy than the composer did. Together with her husband, award-winning composer Martin Silvestri, Christine fashioned a warm, witty, and beautiful evening of music drawn from the American songbook and Broadway. The program also included some very personal original songs, performed with an energy that can only evolve with the intimacy of a 22-year-old musical relationship.

Where else to present a concert version of a new, original Broadway musical titled "Song Of Solomon than at the Actors' Temple. The historic building, constructed in 1923, has been designated a national landmark and the synagogue has been home to many of the greats in show business. Some of it's members and congregants were Al Jolson, Edward G. Robinson, Jack Benny, Milton Berle, Henny Youngman, Eddie Cantor and countless other lesser-known actors, comedians, singers, playwrights, composers, musicians, writers, dancers and theatrical agents. Academy Award winner Shelley Winters kept the High Holy Days in the Actors Temple. as well as The Three Stooges, and Harpo Marx who attended services. Ed Sullivan, whose wife Sylvia Weinstein was Jewish, was also a member.
