The Old Globe is pleased to announce the addition of James Sutorius (Who?s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Lincolnesque) to cast of The Price by Arthur Miller, directed by Richard Seer (All My Sons), to run in the Globe?s Arena Stage at the San Diego Museum of Art?s James S. Copley Auditorium. May 9 ? June 14. James will be replacing John Prosky in the role of ?Walter Franz.? Mr. Prosky will be leaving the cast due to personal reasons.

Pasadena Playhouse (Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director, Ken Novice, Interim Managing Director, Tom Ware, Producing Director) today announced full casting for the upcoming production of Lillian Hellman?s The Little Foxes, which began rehearsals this week. Dámaso Rodriguez (Pasadena Playhouse Associate Artistic Director), who directed Pasadena Playhouse?s critically-acclaimed production of Orson?s Shadow, directs a cast of ten led by Kelly McGillis as Regina Giddens (Top Gun and Broadway?s Hedda Gabler) and Julia Duffy as Birdie Hubbard (CBS?s ?Newhart?). Preview performances begin May 22 at Pasadena Playhouse (39 South El Molino Avenue, Pasadena).

James M. Keller To Curate And Host MUSIC IN THE TIME OF WAR An Insights Series Event 6/2

New York Philharmonic Program Annotator and Leonard Bernstein Scholar-in-Residence James M. Keller will curate and host ?Music in Time of War,? a multimedia Insight Series event, Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at 6:30 p.m., in the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse, Rose Building, 65th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. The lecture will include musical examples that trace the relationship between composers and war over the centuries, and archival footage of Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic?s 1959 tour to the Soviet Union.

Center Theatre Group and producers Thomas Schumacher of Disney Theatrical Productions and Cameron Mackintosh announced today that tickets for the eagerly anticipated production of Mary Poppins will go on sale to the public on Sunday, May 10 at 11am. Mary Poppins begins performances at the CTG/Ahmanson Theatre on November 13, 2009, for a limited engagement. Opening is set for Sunday, November 15 at 6:30 p.m.

The company is looking for an opera novice who has never seen a production of Wagner's Ring to spend some time with Seattle Opera-taking a behind-the-scenes peek into the creation of the Ring, meeting and mingling with long-time Ring lovers and artists, and attending Seattle Opera's renowned production of the Ring-to create a reality-show style 10-minute documentary at the end of the summer chronicling the host's experience.

Goodman Theatre is proud to participate in Science Chicago, a year-long program that is aimed at engaging the Chicago-land region in science and raising awareness of the importance of science education. Through three free readings from Tom Stoppard, Richard Rhodes, and Caryl Churchill, the Goodman and Science Chicago tap into the ?chemistry? between art and science, and explore the scientific themes that are resurrected through these modern plays. Readings take place on three consecutive Mondays, June 8, 15 and 22, beginning at 6pm. A post-play discussion, led by a member of the Goodman?s Artistic staff and noted experts in the fields of physics and bioengineering, follows each reading. New York Philharmonic Principal Clarinet Stanley Drucker, who will retire from the Orchestra at the end of the 2008?09 season concluding a 60-year tenure, will give his final concerto appearances in performances of Copland?s Clarinet Concerto, conducted by Lorin Maazel, Tuesday, June 4, at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, June 6, at 8:00 p.m., and Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Drucker, who joined the New York Philharmonic at age 19 in 1948, and whose tenure encompasses one-third of the history of the 167-year-old orchestra, will have performed as soloist with the Orchestra some 200 times (both at home and abroad), and will have played in more than 10,200 concerts under nine New York Philharmonic conductors at the conclusion of his tenure.

Taproot Theatre Company Celebrated 33 Years With its Annual Gala, Raised $84,000

Taproot Theatre Company celebrated 33 years of bringing theatre to the Seattle region and beyond with its annual gala at The Triple Door on April 18. Taproot Theatre brought in a net of approximately $84,000 in gifts and pledges at Light Up the Night. Although the gala?s income was slightly below 2008?s, the total number of donors and the number of gifts from new donors set a record. The event was completely underwritten, with no out-of-pocket expenses to Taproot Theatre, all the seats were full and Taproot now has over 30 new donors.
