As part of their 50th anniversary celebration, the community theatre JAKARTA PLAYERS (JP) is producing LONGING FOR LOVE, a presentation of five one-act plays. The show will take place on May 24-26 at Institut Francais d'Indonesie, Thamrin, Jakarta.

Sureq Galigo, an epic creation myth from the Bugis people of South Sulawesi, might not ring a bell to most Indonesians. But since 2004, American playwright Robert Wilson has adapted one of its stories into a theatrical experience called I LA GALIGO. And after international runs in 9 countries and 12 cities, I LA GALIGO will return to Indonesian stage at the Ciputra Artpreneur, Jakarta, this July.

UPH COLLEGE (Universitas Pelita Harapan College), a Christian college based in Tangerang, Banten, will present their next theatrical production this Friday. Titled MIMPI KECIL ('Little Dream'), the play will run for two shows on March 29th, 2019 at the UPH Grand Chapel, Lippo Village.

An intriguing social media post made its round around Indonesian theatre circles on the first week of March: Mondiblanc Acting Lab was looking for associate researchers for a research on acting and mental health. Specifically, the lab was looking for actors who have been in at least 5 theatrical or cinematic works.

As befitting of its metropolitan status, Jakarta is full of people of all callings -- including theatre enthusiasts. There are hundreds of theatre companies, communities, majors, and school or university clubs combined residing in the Greater Jakarta area. Yet it's still rare to see a gathering event for these thespian groups to meet each other and geek out about theatre life. On the evening of Saturday, March 16th 2019, at the creative hub Paviliun 28 one such joyous occassion was hosted by the upstart workshop venture DANADA.

HI JAKARTA PRODUCTION SCHOOL, a performing art training center based in Lippo Mall Puri, West Jakarta, will hold their production of ANNIE JR. on May 11th and 12th this year. The show will take place at Usmar Ismail Hall, Kuningan, South Jakarta.

The Someday Project, a musical community for Jakarta high school students, alongside SEP Theatre will present their seventh theatrical production, PULAU ELEGI (Elegi Island) on Saturday, April 12th 2019. The musical will run for two shows at the Ciputra Artpreneur Theatre, Kuningan, South Jakarta.

The Christian high school SMAK Penabur Gading Serpong will perform the musical ALLEGIANCE as part of their annual Creativity Art Night for 2019. The one-show engagement will run on Friday, 26 April 2019 at their school campus, Tangerang.

The dance school GIGI ART OF DANCE will present their biennial showcase dance musical, E-MOTIONS, on March 3rd, 2019 at the Ciputra Artrpreneur Theatre. This year's title, PLASTIC FANTASTIC, seeks to raise awareness towards the problem of plastic waste.

From child stars to a math teacher, these 16 young theatre talents will be sent to Broadway on a week-long scholarship course courtesy of the INDONESIA MENUJU BROADWAY program.

The intensive musical theatre training of INDONESIA MENUJU BROADWAY is well underway, as 70 of Indonesia's most promising musical talents are being taught by a team of Broadway professionals from Passport to Broadway led by Amy Weinstein and Stephen Brotebeck.

INDONESIA MENUJU BROADWAY, an intensive musical theatre training program by Djarum Foundation and StudentsLive, finished its audition process on February 3th and 4th. After the audition, judge Ari Tulang shared audition tips on his Instagram, @aritulang_official.

The show had two runs on Saturday, February 2nd 2019, at Teater Tertutup Dago Tea House, Bandung.

INDONESIA MENUJU BROADWAY (Indonesia Goes to Broadway), an intensive training program for aspiring musical theatre actors, held its audition on February 3rd and 4th, 2019, at Balai Resital Kertanegara, Jakarta. Out of 672 applicants who registered online, 243 hopefuls were selected based on their resume and portfolio. A final group of 70 will be selected to attend the 5-day training by musical theatre professionals.

STEMA ITB (Studi Teater Mahasiswa ITB, the theatre club for the Institut Teknologi Bandung university) will hold their next production on Saturday, February 2nd, 2019 at the Dago Tea House theater, Bandung. RATNA MANGGALI: PERIH SANG PUTRI PENYIHIR (RATNA MANGGALI: GRIEF OF THE SORCERESS' DAUGHTER) will be their second ever musical production since 2014's SANG PENUNGGU BULAN.  

TEATER KATAK will return to the stage on January 26th and 27th with their original musical, KAERU: TITIK DUA DI AKHIR NADA ('Kaeru: The Sign at the End of A Melody') at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta. It will be their 55th production since their inception in 2009 as the theater club of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN).

TEMAN (Teater Musikal Nusantara), an Indonesian professional musical theatre company founded by alumni of LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore, held their first musical production: Sondheim's INTO THE WOODS. The two-day run consisted of three sold out shows at the Salihara blackbox theater in Jakarta.

Jakarta Performing Arts Community (JPAC), a non-profit organization focusing on empowerment through the performing arts will perform David Harrower's theatrical play BLACKBIRD on December 8 & 9, 2018, at SAE Institute, South Jakarta. This production is part of the 16 Film Festival, an activism event slotted to run from November 25 to December 10, 2018.

Teater Musikal Nusantara (TEMAN), a musical theatre company based in Jakarta, will produce their first show, Stephen Sondheim's fairytale musical INTO THE WOODS. The production will run for three shows on two days from December 22nd to December 23rd 2018 and will take place at Teater Salihara, Jakarta. This production is licensed through Musical Theatre International and produced in association with Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture and the Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy.

TEATER PANDORA will bring RUMAH RAHASIA PEREMPUAN (The Women's Secret House), an adaptation of Tracy Letts' 2008 Pullitzer-winning play AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTRY, to the stage of Graha Bhakti Budaya, Jakarta, on November 1st-3rd. It will be the community theater's 8th production, following last July's JELAGA (Cinder), an adaptation of Arthur Miller's Tony-winning THE CRUCIBLE.
