The Old Globe today announced the cast and creative team for the World Premiere of Jonathan Caren's hard-hitting drama, The Recommendation. Directed by Jonathan Munby, The Recommendation will run Jan. 21 - Feb. 26, 2012 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run Jan. 21 - Jan. 25. More than 100 local and national theatre artists representing more than 40 San Diego theatrical productions at a dozen local theaters will compete for the 2011 Craig Noel Awards on Feb. 6, the San Diego Theatre Critics Circle announced today.

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick, has announced that acclaimed actress Christina Ricci will join two-time Tony Award winner Bebe Neuwirth in the company's upcoming production of William Shakespeare's A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM. Directed by Tony Speciale, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM will begin performances Wednesday, March 28 and play a limited engagement through Sunday, May 6. Neuwirth will play the role of Titania and Ricci the role of Hermia. Additional casting will be announced early in the new year. Tickets will go on sale to the general public February 6. CSC is currently presenting the highly-acclaimed, sold-out production of Anton Chekhov's THE CHERRY ORCHARD (through January 8 only) and will next present Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham in Bertolt Brecht's GALILEO, directed by Brian Kulick, beginning performances Wednesday, February 1.

Music Theatre International (MTI) released the licensing rights to over 20 musicals during 2011 for both amateur and professional productions. The shows range from new selections in the MTI Broadway Junior Collection to Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning musicals straight off of their Broadway run.

Roundabout Theatre Company's New York premiere of Stephen Karam's new play Sons of the Prophet, will end its limited engagement on Sunday, January 1st at 7:00PM. Stephen Karam's new play Sons of the Prophet is directed by Peter DuBois. The cast features Yusef Bulos (Bill), Jonathan Louis Dent (Vin), Santino Fontana (Joseph), Joanna Gleason (Gloria), Lizbeth Mackay (Mrs. McAndrew), Dee Nelson (Dr. Manor), Chris Perfetti (Charles), Charles Socarides (Timothy).

As previously rumored, Rob Asford confirmed today in tthe New York Times that there are still plans to bring London's Donmar Warehouse production of ANNA CHRISTIE to Broadway. Starring Jude Law and Ruth Wilson, Ashford told the NYT that 'Mr. Law and the rest of the Donmar cast would like to do the play on Broadway, but it was a matter of scheduling.'

Tony Award®-winning actor Linda Lavin - who recently starred in the Vineyard Theatre's acclaimed production of Nicky Silver's hit play THE LYONS - willbe honored by the nonprofit theatre company at its annual Gala on Monday, March 12, 2012 at 6pm at the Hudson Theatre at the Millennium Broadway Hotel (145 W. 44 St.), it has been announced by The Vineyard. The evening will be directed by Carl Andress, who recently staged the benefit concert of THE VISIT on Broadway for The Vineyard and The Actors Fund. The emcee and roster of talent for the evening will be announced shortly.

According to published reports Broadway-bound Ricky Martin, who will soon star as Che in EVITA, has topped the list of Most-Googled Gays & Lesbians in 2011. Also making the list were Jane Lynch, Chris Colfer, Zachary Quinto, Elton John, and Adam Lambert.

30 years ago today, Dreamgirls premiered on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre. The production was directed by Michael Bennett, produced by Bennett, Bob Avian, Geffen Records, and The Shubert Organization, and choreographed by Bennett and Michael Peters. It starred Sheryl Lee Ralph as Deena Jones, Jennifer Holliday as Effie White, Loretta Devine as Lorrell Robinson, Ben Harney as Curtis Taylor, Jr., Cleavant Derricks as James 'Thunder' Early, and Obba Babatundé as C. C. White. Dreamgirls proved to be a star-making vehicle for several of its performers, particularly Holliday, whose performance as Effie received significant praise.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series will present We're Gonna Have To Ask You To Leave...(a benefit concert to kick out cancer), to be presented at Birdland on Monday, January 23 at 7pm.

It's time to let your hair down and dance the night away! The 1960's are coming back to Washington as the Broadway sensation Hairspray will begin performances at the Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre on November 21st - just in time for the holidays. Directed by Signature's Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer, the production will star national radio host Robert Aubry Davis (WETA's 'Around Town' and Sirius/XM Radio), making his musical theater stage debut in the iconic role of Edna Turnblad. The impressive cast of DC favorites is headlined by Carolyn Cole (Tracy Turnblad), Nova Y. Payton (Motormouth Mable), Sherri L. Edelen (Velma Von Tussle), PatRick Thomas Cragin (Link Larkin), and Harry A. Winter (Wilbur Turnblad). Hairspray will play at Signature's MAX Theatre through January 29, 2012. According to the Chicago Trinune, THE ADDAMS FAMILY, which will close on Broadway later this month, will return to Chicago next week, and audiences should expect a reworked show. Creator Rick Elice said of the harsh critical response for the Broadway production: "It was difficult to get past that at the outset. To be told that this was the worst musical of the past 40 years. Really? That vitriol was part of my energy for reinvestigating the show."
