Nicole Rosky

Nicole is the Editor-in-Chief of BroadwayWorld, where she began her journey as an intern in 2010. As BroadwayWorld's Senior Managing Editor, a role she took on in 2012, she covered over a decade's-worth of theatre and live entertainment in New York City and around the world. Throughout her time with BroadwayWorld, Nicole has worked extensively with the photo and video team, producing (and sometimes editing) a great deal of the site's original programming, including Backstage with Richard Ridge, Dance Captain Dance Attack, Next on Stage, Kid Critics, and Teen Critics, just to name a few. Originally from outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she is a proud graduate of Penn State University's College of Communications. Nicole currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, where she gets to enjoy far more great theatre than she ever dreamed. Her first great role was "Billy Flynn" in her fourth grade musical theatre class. Oh, how far she has come!

  • Tony Nominee Reactions - I have had the pleasure of covering every Tony Awards season since 2011 and one of my favorite parts is hearing from the nominees just moments after they find out that they ARE nominees.
  • Theatre Queens - When I'm not at a Broadway show, you'll find me at home, catching up on the latest episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race. I've had a blast chatting with many of the queens who call theatre their first love.
  • Broadway Jukebox - I love a good playlist and I find myself making them OFTEN. I've curated over 100 musical theatre playlists for BroadwayWorld (my personal favorite is "Female Anthems of Broadway"). Give them a listen and follow BroadwayWorld on Spotify to find out what I come up with next!
  • Broadway By Design - I created this series after realizing how little information is shared about the theatrical design process and it has become one of my favorite ongoing features.
  • Next On Stage - Working on this project and having the opportunity to spotlight so many talented young people from around the country has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

Hollywood and Broadway award-winners Kaye Ballard, Liliane Montevecchi, and Lee Roy Reams are to star in 'Doin' It For Love,' a Broadway-style tribute to the standards and the stories behind the music. Opening in Los Angeles, Calif. and Austin, Texas, 'Doin' It For Love' features a 10-piece orchestra conducted onstage by David Geist, the show's music director. Hilary Knight, the internationally renowned artist and illustrator, designed the poster art and collectables for the show. Goin inside of rehearal with the cast in the video below!

Coming up at the City Theatre Company this April is Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, with music and lyrics by Michael Friedman and a book by Alex Timbers. Directed by Michael Gray and music-directed by Joe Trainor, it's a raucous ride through an American past that seems awfully familiar to modern eyes. Production runs April 27 through May 12.

Delaware Theatre Company will present Crowns, April 11 - 29, 2012. In the show, A young woman who moves down South to live with her aunt is given a lesson in 'hat-titude' in this toe-tapping musical. From feathered hats to flowered hats, pillboxes to turbans, to hats for work and hats for church, there is a hat for every occassion, and a cultural and historical significance to them as well as 'Mother Shaw' and her 'hat queens' share in their stories. This soul-stirring musical demonstrates the handing down of culture from one generation to the next and celebrates the refuge, equality and healing that occurs in this place of spirituality.

Today in 2008, the first Broadway revival of Sunday in the Park with George opened at Studio 54, where it ran for 149 performances. Sunday in the Park with George is a 1983 musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. The musical was inspired by the painting 'A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte' by Georges Seurat. The musical won the 1985 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, two Tony Awards for design (and a nomination for Best Musical), numerous Drama Desk Awards, the 1991 Olivier Award for Best Musical and the 2007 Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical Production.

Today in 1957, The Taming of the Shrew openend at the Phoenix Theatre, where it ran for 23 performances. A comedy by William Shakespeare, the play is believed to have been written between 1590 and 1591. The main plot depicts the courtship of Petruchio, a gentleman of Verona, and Katherina, the headstrong, obdurate shrew. Initially, Katherina is an unwilling participant in the relationship, but Petruchio tempers her with various psychological torments-the 'taming'-until she becomes a compliant and obedient bride. The subplot features a competition between the suitors of Katherina's more desirable sister, Bianca.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, an upcoming restaurant and club, 54 Below, hopes to become a new staple for performers and patrons alike. The 160-seat space is set to kick off featuring Patti LuPone for two weeks in June, and has also confirmed that Brian d'Arcy James, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Rebecca Luker and Megan Hilty have scheduled performances.

The Pasadena Playhouse (Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director), in association with David Shor announced today that the world premiere of SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE - THE MUSICAL will be rescheduled from the closing production of the current 2011 - 2012 season to a slot in the 2012 - 2013 season. The production which replaces SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE - THE MUSICAL this June will be announced at a later date.

West End star Ramin Karimloo, who was just seen as the title character in the 25th Anniversary concert of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA and currently starring as Jean Valjean in the London production of LES MISERABLES, will soon release a new album titled Ramin. According to the star's twitter page, the release has been moved to April 9, 2012.

The stars of the Tony Award winning hit musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Nick Adams and Kyle Brown and Priscilla producer Scott Mauro celebrated Fashion Week in New York City this week at the 9th Annual Woman's Day Red Dress Awards to support the American Heart Association at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Allen Room. Mauro also produced the Red Dress Awards show and festivities that were hosted by 'The Today Show's' Hoda Kotb. Earlier in the week Nick Adams also took to the Mercedes-Benz Fall 2012 Fashion Week runway to model designer Malan Breton's new Fantome Collection.
