Broadway Records just announced that Patti LuPone's new live album, titled 'Far Away Places,' will be released on January 15. The album, which was recorded at LuPone's 54 Below show earlier this year, will be produced by six-time Grammy nominee, Robert Sher, who previously worked with Patti on the Gypsy 2008 Broadway Cast Recording.

Today in 1981, Dreamgirls opened at the Imperial Theatre, where it ran for 1521 performances. Based upon the show business aspirations and successes of R&B acts such as The Supremes, The Shirelles, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, and others, the musical follows the story of a young female singing trio from Chicago, Illinois called 'The Dreams', who become music superstars. It was nominated for thirteen Tony Awards, including the Tony Award for Best Musical, and won six. It was later adapted into a motion picture from DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures in 2006.

THE BOOK OF MORMON, winner of nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, just launched its Second National Tour in Chicago at the Bank of America Theatre (18 West Monroe), featuring Nic Rouleau as Elder Price, Syesha Mercado as Nabulungi & Ben Platt as Elder Cunningham. REAL HOUSEWIVES have some competition in THE REAL KIDS OF A CHRISTMAS STORY! Written and directed by JAKE WILSON, episode two features the kids behind A CHRISTMAS STORY: John Babbo, Zac Ballard, Grace Capeless, Zoe Considine, George Franklin, Jack Mastrianni, Sarah Min-Kyuang Park, Johnny Rabe, J.D. According to published reports, Broadway veteran Carly Rose Sonnenclar will duet with LeAnn Rimes on the finale episode of X FACTOR this week. Only three contestants remain after an action-packed X FACTOR Semi-Finals results show last week. Now it's up to America to decide who will win a $5 million recording contract, and appear in their own Pepsi commercial to air during the 2013 Grammy Awards.

The Royal Shakespeare Company and The Dodgers today announced the casting of the principal roles and the ensemble in the eagerly anticipated Broadway-bound musical MATILDA THE MUSICAL. They are (alphabetically): Karen Aldridge (Mrs. Phelps), Gabriel Ebert (Mr. Wormwood), Lesli Margherita (Mrs. Wormwood), and Lauren Ward (Miss Honey).

Rob Bartlett (How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying), Katie Rose Clarke (Wicked), Claybourne Elder (Bonnie and Clyde) and Tony Award-winner Karen Ziemba (Contact, Curtains) are set to star in an upcoming industry lab presentation of the new musical, BEYOND THE MUSIC, in January 2013. BEYOND THE MUSIC features a book by Andy Sandberg, music and lyrics by Cliff Downs and Katie Kahanovitz, and direction by Sandberg, with choreography by AC Ciulla and music supervision and arrangements by Fred Lassen.

JERSEY BOYS, the Tony, Olivier and Grammy Award-winning Best Musical, is pleased to announce the return of John Lloyd Young who won a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance as Frankie Valli in the original Broadway cast. Young will again perform the role of Frankie Valli on Broadway beginning Friday, January 11 for a limited engagement.

Today in 1996, the first Broadway revival of Once Upon a Mattress opened at the Broadhurst Theatre, where it ran for188 performances. Once Upon a Mattress is a musical comedy with music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Marshall Barer. The play was written as an adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale The Princess and the Pea. Once Upon A Mattress marked the Broadway debut of later stage and TV legend Carol Burnett, who originated the role of Princess Winnifred.

The producers of GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS announced today that show recouped its investment, making it the first production of the season to recoup.
