Sundance Now, AMC Networks' premium video streaming service, announced today the acquisition of BAFTA-nominated hit British television series “Motherland” from global content leader Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF.A, LGF.B), which has worldwide rights to the comedy. The critically-acclaimed series, written and created by Sharon Horgan, Holly Walsh, and Graham and Helen Linehan, will make its exclusive U.S. debut with the first two episodes premiering on the service Thursday, May 10th. New episodes of the half-hour comedy starring BAFTA-winner Anna Maxwell Martin (Philomena, The Night Watch), Lucy Punch (“A Series of Unfortunate Events”, Into the Woods, “Ben and Kate”), BAFTA-nominated Diane Morgan (“Cunk on Britain”, Me Before You, Funny Cow) and Paul Ready (The Death of Stalin, “The Terror”) will stream weekly every Thursday until its season one conclusion on June 14th.

In the Fall of 2016, Speedy Ortiz went to Brooklyn's Silent Barn to record what they thought would be their third LP, but following election day they knew they had to change course. “The songs on the album that were strictly personal or lovey dovey just didn't mean anything to me anymore--that's not the kind of music I've found healing or motivating in the past few years, and I was surprised I'd written so much of it,” explains front person Sadie Dupuis. 'Social politics and protest have been a part of our music from day one, and I didn't want to stop doing that on this album.' So the band scrapped the album they made, Dupuis wrote more songs over the course of four months, and Speedy Ortiz created the urgent, taught, and pointedly witty Twerp Verse, out April 27th on Carpark. The organization, which today represents more than 660,000 members, collected approximately $1.144 billion in revenues last year and distributed for the first time more than $1.007 billion to its songwriter, composer and music publisher members. Total ASCAP revenues increased by 8 percent and distributions were up 10 percent year-over-year. 

The Board of Directors of TIFF announced today the appointment of Cameron Bailey to the newly created position of Artistic Director & Co-Head of TIFF.  The role is a promotion and expansion of Bailey's current position of Artistic Director, which he has held since 2012. Prior to that, Bailey held the role of Festival Co-Director from 2008-2012. Bailey will report directly to the Board of Directors effective October 1, 2018.

As previously reported, The CW's high school drama RIVERDALE will be staging a production of CARRIE: THE MUSICAL this spring. The show's resident bad girl Cheryl Blossom (played by Madelaine Petsch) will play Carrie White in the episode.
