The First Annual Heller Shorts Off, Off Brookside Short Play Festival Takes Place 8/12-8/14August 7, 2010Heller Shorts Off, Off Brookside Short Play Festival presents an evening of eight short plays, about 10 minutes each, featuring the theme 'Short Subjects.' Performances are Aug. 12-14 at 8pm and Aug. 15 at 2pm. The performance on Friday, August 13 will include a reception for the audience to meet the playwrights at 7pm and a talk-back with directors and playwrights following the performance. Admission is $7 for seniors and students and $10 for other adults.
Frank Wess Set to Perform at Saint Peter's Church, 10/10 August 7, 2010On this the 40th anniversary of All Nite Soul, the Jazz Ministry of Saint Peter's Church - the Jazz Church - is thrilled to honor National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Jazz Master, saxophonist and flutist Frank Wess. The event begins with Jazz Vespers at 5 PM. All Nite Soul starts at 7 PM with over 80 musicians celebrating All Nite Soul and honoring Frank Wess. An 'exhibit wall' in the Living Room of Saint Peter's Church will tell the story of Frank Wess with memorabilia.

The Waterfront Museum Presents TUG AND BARGE Week, 8/27-8/31August 7, 2010A woman tug captain has teamed with a juggling showboat captain to bring two antique vessels to Brooklyn Bridge Park Friday, August 27t- Wednesday,September 1. 'Tug & Barge Week' will feature free public tugboat trips and free barge tours. The Waterfront Museum, housed aboard the 1914 Lehigh Valley Barge No.79, and the 1907 Tugboat Pegasus are both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors are encouraged to walk, bike or use mass transit to visit the new dock located in Brooklyn Heights at the foot of Atlantic Avenue behind the new playground.
Ravinia Announces Upcoming August Events August 7, 2010Legendary soprano Kiri Te Kanawa returns to Ravinia Festival in a rare intimate Martin Theatre recital at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 18. This performance also features director of the Steans Music Institute vocal program Brian Zeger on piano. The program includes works by Scarlatti, Vivaldi, Handel, Liszt, Strauss, Rachmaninoff, Ginastera, Guastavino and Canteloube.
