The Custom House announces its upcoming events.

CST will hold auditions for THE SCARLET LETTER on February 6th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Auditions will be held at the Carpenter Square Theatre office at 1015 N. Broadway, Suite 210, just south of 10th & Broadway on the West side of the street. Coffeeslingers is a business on the first floor, and CST is located on the 2nd floor.

Visit several contemporary art exhibits in galleries in Manhattan's central skyscraper district. The tour finds and explains that week's most fascinating exhibits, in areas of painting, sculpture, electronic media, and photography. Led by Rafael Risemberg, Ph.D.

On Wednesday, January 26th, NewFilmmakers and ProductionHUB present Small Potatoes. The NewFilmmakers NY Series screens at Anthology Film Archives on the Lower East Side at 32 Second Avenue & 2nd Street. The Centre Theater's Independent Voices Festival enters it penultimate week with three shows and one special event. Again the festival spotlights African American theatre with plays by two emerging Philadelphia playwrights. Robert Millers 'Portrait in Black and White' will premiere at the Festival and Tiffany Joyner's 'Apologies are for the Living' will encore after a critically successful run at the Philadelphia Urban Theatre festival in September.

Common Ground Theatre (www.cgtheatre.com) is a performance and teaching space located in west Durham, offering performing arts and educational groups a flexible, well-equipped alternative space. The Theatre provides a convenient venue for Triangle audiences to experience the diversity of our area's arts and educational offerings. All events listed will be held at Common Ground Theatre. It's a week of Broadway on the talk show circuit, with stage and screen star Hugh Jackman visiting Oprah's set in Australia, Nathan Lane stopping by Late Show with David Letterman, and The View featuring a performance by the cast of SISTER ACT.

Theoni V. Alredge, the costume designer for such Broadway stage hits as A Chorus Line, the original production of La Cage Aux Folles and Annie, has passed away. She was 78 years old.

Trumpet master Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra return to Salt Lake City for one night only to bring some swinging heat to a cold February night. The Chicago Street Theatre announces auditions for The Clean House, a play by Sarah Ruhl, directed by Jason Utesch. Auditions will take place Sunday, January 23, 2011 at 7 p.m. and Monday, January 24, 2011 at 7 p.m.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey's acclaimed educational touring company, Shakespeare LIVE!, will launch its fifteenth season in February, traveling to schools and other venues throughout the tri-state state region with 65-minute versions of two of Shakespeare's most popular plays - A Midsummer Night's Dream for grades 3 and up and Julius Caesar for grades 6 and up.

Vincente Minnelli - the late stage and film director best known for his musical films such as 1944's Meet Me in St. Louis (during which he dated and later married its star, legendary actress and singer Judy Garland), 1951's An American in Paris, 1955's Kismet, and 1958's Gigi (for which he won an Oscar) - is set to be honored by the Locarno Film Festival in August.

The Blank Theatre Company's Young Playwrights Festival is now seeking submissions nationwide from playwrights 19 years of age and younger. Submission deadline is March 15, 2011. Winning plays will be presented by professional actors and directors from June 2-26, 2011 at the Stella Adler Theatre in Hollywood, CA.

The 5th Avenue Theatre and ACT - A Contemporary Theatre are proud to announce the Northwest premiere of Vanities: A New Musical, running at ACT from February 4 to May 1, 2011. With a book by Jack Heifner (who wrote the original play on which the musical is based) and music and lyrics by David Kirshenbaum, Vanities: A New Musical focuses on the friendship of three women who journey from high school innocence in the early '60s of the Kennedy era to maturity in the 'me-centered' ‘80s. As the story moves across the decades, their relationship is tested both by the world and each other.
