Give it Up!, the new pop musical from Douglas Carter Beane (Xanadu - Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Book of a Musical; Tony Award nomination for Best Book of Musical, The Little Dog Laughed - Tony Award nomination for Best Play), with music and lyrics by Lewis Flinn, is currently playing the Dallas Theatre Center through February 14, 2010. After making its world premiere to raves in Dallas on January 22, production footage has been released! The musical reportedly has Broadway aspirations for the near future.

Additional casting is set for the first Broadway revival of FENCES, the 1987 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play by August Wilson, starring two-time Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington and featuring Tony Award-winner and Academy Award-nominee Viola Davis. FENCES, directed by Kenny Leon, will open on Monday, April 26, 2010 at the Cort Theatre (138 West 48th Street). The strictly limited 13-week engagement will begin previews on April 14. Auditions began this weekend for the next star of the West End, as Andrew Lloyd Webber launched his search for the next Dorothy in his upcoming production of the Wizard of Oz. The lucky leading lady will be selected over the course of a several week 'audition' process on the BBC1 reality television show Over the Rainbow. Webber's official website reveals that hundreds of potential candidates headed to the Glasgow town of Hampden to be among the first to audition.

On Thursday, January 14, Disney Theatrical Productions welcomed Oscar, Tony, Grammy and Emmy Award winner Whoopi Goldberg (moderator of ABC's THE VIEW) to the cast of Broadway's landmark musical event, THE LION KING for one night only at the Minskoff Theatre. Goldberg appeared in a series of surprise cameos throughout the 8pm performance. The Tony Award-winning Broadway production of HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical is launching the 'HAIR eParty,' a unprecedented digital initiative designed to give audience members exciting new ways to share and relive the HAIR experience. New York's OBIE Award-winning Epic Theatre Ensemble today announced dates for the New York premiere of Passion Play by Sarah Ruhl (In The Next Room (or the vibrator play)) and directed by Mark Wing-Davey (The Singing Forest). The show will begin previews April 27 and run through May 30, 2010. Opening night is set for May 12, 2010. Passion Play will be performed in the site-specific environs of the Irondale Center, a converted Sunday School inside the Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church (85 South Oxford Street) in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.
