Foundation Season, 3/23March 7, 2012Orchestra Nova brings the Poway Center for the Performing Arts Foundation's 2011/2012 Professional Performance Season to a close with A Taste of Spain on Friday, March 23. The evening will begin in the lobby where concert-goers will be immersed in an emotional, intellectual and theatrical 'Nova Experience' bringing the essence of Spain -- dance, cuisine, culture, music and more to the Center. Music from Bizet, Tchaikovsky, de Falla, and Albeniz, among others, will be performed by Orchestra Nova's 35 talented musicians. An array of special guest artists including: Victoria Mature, soprano; Gregorio Gonzalez, baritone; Olé Flamenco (Marysol Fuentes, flamenco singer; Erika Lopez, flamenco dance and Juan Moro, flamenco guitar) and Fred Benedetti, classical guitar will further bring Spain to life.

The cast of the reading includes Lindsay Mendez (Godspell), Hunter Ryan Herdlicka (A Little Night Music), Colin Hanlon (Rent), Sean Dugan (Next Fall), Sally Wilfert (Make Me A Song) and Michael Winther (33 Variations). The reading will be directed by Obie Award-winning director Evan Yionoulis, music directed by Paul Staroba (Lucky Guy) and stage managed by Donald Butchko.

Met Museum of Art to Host Chess Tournament at The CloistersMarch 7, 201230 elementary school students from New York City public schools will compete in an all-day chess tournament at The Cloisters Museum and Gardens, the branch of The Metropolitan Museum of Art for medieval art and architecture located in Fort Tryon Park in northern Manhattan. The top 10 students will play using replicas of the world-famous Lewis Chessmen, ivory chessmen from the Middle Ages. A group of 34 of these famed chess pieces is on loan to The Cloisters from the British Museum for the exhibition The Game of Kings: Medieval Ivory Chessmen from the Isle of Lewis (on view through April 22, 2012).

His skill as a vocalist and makeup artist eventually landed him a spot in La Cage aux Folles, where he performed and sang for many years as Ms Midler, Barbra Streisand, and Cher.
For Legendary Divas, Edwards brings five members of the cast of La Cage to Stoneham, along with six Las Vegas dancers. The show runs from Thursday, March 22 through Sunday, March 25.
