The stage star passed away at the Manhattan home she shared with her husband, New York City Ballet star Jacques d'Amboise, on Tuesday after a long struggle with primary lateral sclerosis, a rare neuromuscular disease.

Atlanta Shakespeare Co. Offers High School Students Chance to Discover 'ROMEO & JULIET'February 10, 2009A group of 40 high school students from Therrell High School in Ben Hill are exploring Shakespeare by producing their own version of Romeo and Juliet, under the guidance of a resident professional theatre company. Their final performances on March 5th and 8th will be the culmination of an intensive ?Shakespeare Residency,' an education program run by the Atlanta Shakespeare Company, the company that performs at the Shakespeare Tavern in Atlanta. Residencies involve the students in after-school rehearsals at least five days per week for eight weeks, during which students explore Shakespeare's text with help from professional actors. Participants also learn specialized skills, such as safe stage combat with swords, from certified theatre practitioners.

Special events will be held at Taproot Theatre Company, Greg Kucera Gallery and Tacoma Art Museum, which are celebrating the history, stories and art of the Gee's Bend community. The people of Gee's Bend have a rich history going back to the days of slavery, when the peninsula was the site of a plantation established by Joseph Gee in the early 19th century. Fast-forwarding nearly two centuries, many residents are descendants of former Gee's Bend slaves. Throughout the years they became sharecroppers and land-owners and marched with Martin Luther King, Jr. (their mules even pulled his casket after he was assassinated).
