This event is part of: Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival 2024
Star Quality is an alternative opera for fixed media and live performers, based on new music for modified guitar and soprano voice.
The story uses the history and future of art-making and ‘the performer’ to revisit the 400-year battle between music and words. Presenting a catechism on aesthetic friction; the journey before a car crash all the way back to prehistory; the corporate infinite circle of the sea; and the literature of Anna and Fyodor Dostoyevsky: the elements rub and contradict and fuse and blend in response to our accelerating times.
Bringing influences from live art, rock and jazz, this is an exciting hybrid work about the growing challenge to cultures of live performance. (Work-in-progress)
