Metamorphoses is a radical reimagining of Ovid’s classic poem from the 1st century.
A voyeurist is ripped apart by their own hounds.
A woman looks at her reflection and sees a beast staring back at her.
A wedding erupts into brutality.
Greek mythology is shockingly violent and yet deeply beautiful. It is at once incredibly poetic and irredeemably vulgar. These stories are ridiculously camp and deeply difficult to read, yet the stories they contain make up the foundation of Western storytelling.
Metamorphoses rips apart and remixes Ovid’s primal text to create a kaleidoscopic mish-mash of a show that is at turns horrific, hilarious and beautiful. The show is a radical, psychedelic, genre-bending odyssey that extrapolates on the transness that is at the core of this classic piece of mythology.
We want to rip up these stories and see what we find.
We want to give trans people power back over their own mythology.
We want to punch Ovid in his dick.
