Dad Is Not My Friend explores the relationship between three young people and their migrant parents.
Torn between tradition and the need to fit in to the country they were born in, they discover a very powerful AI that can change their lives forever. The potential for surveillance and control provided by the AI mimics the control of their families, driven by fear and the desire to create new beginnings.
The show was funded with support from Arts Council England and The Romanian Cultural Institute in London (ICR London). Although the script was written after interviewing first, second and third generation migrants, the play is entirely fictional.
Directed by Sava Cebotari, and written by Grace Spencer, the show is their first production in the UK, following several award winning productions in Moldova, Romania, Russia, Germany and Ukraine.
