Student Blog: Code of Behavior
by Student Blogger: Madalyn Macko - May 18, 2021

I can’t help but question why I would be able to establish enough discipline to keep working this summer, fresh off my most draining semester yet, when I couldn’t do it during a time where there was nothing else to do.

Student Blog: Takeaways and Turning Points
by Student Blogger: Grace Cutler - May 18, 2021

As I packed up the last of my boxes and prepared to leave my college dorm behind, I couldn’t help but reflect on everything that made my first year of college what it was. I entered a brand new place during a global pandemic and trained for an industry that could barely exist with the given health risks. After graduating through a youtube video and spending six months inside, the prospect of meeting new people, studying, and exploring a new place seemed daunting.

by Student Blogger: Kelly Schwantes - May 18, 2021

In this unprecedented merger of COVID-19 and post-graduate life, you have nothing but time to search and prepare for a job opening. I have spent the last five months scouring LinkedIn, ArtSearch, League of Chicago Theatres, and contacting references, professors, colleagues, and more in an attempt to find the perfect entry-level arts management position.

Student Blog: Want to Be a Better Writer? Do Improv.
by Student Blogger: Sydney Emerson - May 17, 2021

This is a plea to all of the writers out there-the introverted, hiding-behind-a-laptop, don't-look-at-me writers. Do improv. Join a troupe. Do it with your friends. Do it by yourself. (Robin Williams did!) There's the obvious benefit that everybody points to with improv-an increased ability to think and speak on the fly, growing more comfortable with public speaking.

Looking into the future, I wish I would have more time with you. Coming into this school as a sophomore and then spending most of my year has left me with hopefully two full years. I wish I could be at this school for all four years. I look to the future with optimism and I cannot wait to get back on campus and be with my people.

Student Blog: Performing Live Again
by Student Blogger: Sabrina Duke - May 17, 2021

'The fact I had forgotten dressing up was a thing made me realize performing live again may not be like riding a bike. I had not performed live in over a year ago, and I had never performed live with a mask. Needless to say, the nerves hit hard.'

Student Blog: D.I.Y. Playbill Binder
by Student Blogger: Abigail Dobry - May 17, 2021

Playbills are such an iconic piece of memorabilia that audience members receive when seeing a play or musical. These free souvenirs are a great way to look back and document all the shows you have seen, including where and when. Though Playbill does sell their own binders to collect the booklets, they are a little pricey. So, a few years ago I thought, “Why not make my own?” And I did!

by Student Blogger: Claudia Quintero - May 11, 2021

Hi there! I am glad you opened this blog and I am so happy I get to write one more week sharing my experience as a Musical Theater College Student. People often say to me that they have curiosity about how our classes are and they often ask me if my training really helps to become a 'good performer'. My answer to this is... First of all being a 'Good Performer' is subjective, not everyone has the same concept to it.

Student Blog: You Have Always Been My True North
by Student Blogger: Caiti Ho - May 11, 2021

It has been a little over three weeks since the release of Netflix's Shadow and Bone, now is the time to share my thoughts and appreciation. I loved the books all of them. They were amazing in every way. I love fantasy and the Grishaverse was so fun and beautiful. Beautiful characters and beautiful storylines. So, obviously when I found out about the adaptation, I was super excited.

Student Blog: Changing My Major

If I have any advice to anyone who wants to switch their major, if you're unfamiliar with the major, take the intro class with a really good teacher, and ask them questions, be persistent with the class, because you never really know what's going to happen when you change your major.

So, I’ve been making smaller ‘baby’ bears at a lower price point.” Most recently, her WAITRESS-inspired “Baby Jenna Bear” has been a hit. A TikTok detailing how they are made just surpassed 34K views. D’Angelo also makes custom requests.

Student Blog: One Size Does Not Fit All
by Student Blogger: Alexandra Curnyn - May 6, 2021

“Ugh, that costume looks horrible on you. See, right around your stomach, you can’t hide anything! Take it off. It’s awful.” I stood in the middle of the theatre under the relentless, beaming stage lights during our tech week 'costume parade' and looked down at my shimmery dress (stomach pudge included, but not too prominent), which matched many of the other ensemble girls'. I began to process these verbal wounds to my teenage, fragile ego, and after a few moments, I wanted nothing more than to hide in the wings until closing night.

Student Blog: Theatre Kid Reacts to the 93rd Oscars

2020 wasn’t the best year for film, and understandably so. I still managed to find some nominees to root for at this year’s Oscars ceremony, including some Broadway favorites.
