BWW Blog: Why get a Master of Fine Arts? by Student Blogger: A.E. Sarver - February 12, 2019 I'm sitting in a New York City cafe this morning. The necessary coffee and unnecessary blueberry muffin accompanying me. Like many theatre-makers, I knew from a very early age that I wanted to be in theatre for the rest of my life. But now I'm here, not only a graduate student getting my MFA in stage directing, but also grabbing every opportunity I can manage to find. BWW Blog: An All Women Creative Team- Just Doing Our Jobs by Student Blogger: A.E. Sarver - February 8, 2019 Fast Cars. Moonshine. Bluegrass. A play with a sense of freedom. And a creative team of all women putting it together. When I started the Master of Fine Arts program in Directing last semester at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, I wasn't aware of the amount of opportunities I would be given. BWW Blog: Dinner at Denny's by Student Blogger: Kelsie Davis - February 7, 2019 Being involved in a theatre production means two things: hard work and late nights. This is especially true as a student, whose schedule is also filled up with classes, work, extracurriculars, group meetings, homework, and if you're lucky, a social life. As the choreographer for the spring musical, being in rehearsals every night requires focus and the time outside of rehearsal is spent adjusting, writing, and re-writing choreography. The dance numbers are constantly cycling through my head. I fall asleep thinking about them and most of the time it's my first thought when I wake up. It's hard work, but I love every minute of it. BWW Blog: The Baggage Actors Carry by Student Blogger: Rebecca Koenig - February 5, 2019 As musical theatre majors, we basically live multiple lives in one day. Our classes are unlike any other major in terms of daily requirements. Those requirements include not only an extreme amount of emotional and physical stamina, but also an exorbitant amount of stuff. My book bag contains my life and universe and without it I would fail my courses. BWW Blog: A Pirate's Life For Me by Student Blogger: Kelsie Davis - February 5, 2019 Over the past decade, theatre has continually challenged me. There are always the inner challenges of trusting my instincts, being open to express myself, and working through failures. I am currently in my senior year of college, and in the past four years, I have also been challenged in new positions within the theatre. BWW Blog: Experiencing The Kennedy Center as a Catholic University Drama Student by Student Blogger: Brandon Horwin - February 1, 2019 Hello everybody! My name is Brandon Horwin and I am a sophomore drama major and performing arts management minor in the Rome School of Music, Drama, and Art at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. I'm thrilled to be a Student Blogger for BroadwayWorld and to take you inside the life of a drama student in our Nation's Capital. BWW Blog: The Importance of Seeing Theatre by Student Blogger: Ellen Powers - December 21, 2018 Hello again everyone, and welcome to my third blog post for BroadwayWorld! This week I wanted to talk about an idea that I've thought a lot about recently, and that is the impact that the shows I have seen have had on me over the years. BWW Blog: Taking Derek Klena's Masterclass! by Student Blogger: JuJu Jaworski - December 20, 2018 I got the chance this past weekend on Sunday (December 9th, 2018) to take a masterclass with Broadway leading man Derek Klena. It was an experience that helped me grow so much as an actor and all-around performer. BWW Blog: That's the End of That! by Student Blogger: Selena Newton - December 19, 2018 So this is my last article! At least, this is my last article for now. By the time this is posted, I'll be done with all my finals! This semester has been truly wild. It really went by quicker than I thought. I'm still not in the holiday spirit and it's probably too late for that since Christmas is in a few days. I've spent so much time in the city and it's been fun seeing all the holiday displays and store windows. I'm just really ready for rest because I'm tired like everyone else is. BWW Blog: Actor, Singer, MOVER?! by Student Blogger: Christina Samanie - December 18, 2018 Hi BroadwayWorld, Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade! (For the Broadway performances…of course!) BWW Blog: One Week Left by Student Blogger: Selena Newton - December 12, 2018 Alright. So. There is exactly one week left of the semester. I'm so tired. I can't believe how much work I've actually gotten done. BWW Blog: BA Programs are Good and Here's Why by Student Blogger: Kiana Holmes - December 6, 2018 Dear High School Seniors: BA programs are good and here's why BWW Blog: Final Stretch! by Student Blogger: Selena Newton - December 5, 2018 Just like that the semester is almost over! It feels like I just started the fall semester. Now I'm in my last week of classes! Has the studying started? No. Has the crying started? Absolutely! Like every other college student, I'm currently drowning in final papers, projects, due dates, and probably a whole bunch of other stuff that I'm not even aware of. I've been trying to get into the holiday spirit by doing festive things in the city. I haven't had much time, but I did get to enjoy a trip to the Met over the weekend! BWW Blog: Stitching Together A New Skill by Student Blogger: Madeline Oldham - December 4, 2018 The more time I spend in college, especially as a Drama Major, I find myself really living by the first rule of improv: "Yes, And." This semester has been full of opportunities where I've agreed to do it something on a whim and had to figure out the logistics later on. It keeps the thrill of performance alive since it throws me into the thick of research and preparation that I love so much. The nervous-excited feeling in my stomach when trying something new in the world of Drama has become one that I now crave and chase. BWW Blog: How Did I Survive and Stay Awake and Sane by Student Blogger: Lea Passione - December 3, 2018 Hello people of Broadwayworld! Lea here. Sleepy and tired with no coffee (I don't drink coffee which most college students have as a necessity. I don't drink it but I'm in need of a sugar rush). Hope you guys had a great and safe Halloween. I will show you my Halloween costume at the end. Hint: Obviously, its Broadway related. BWW Blog: It's Not All Fun and (Theatre) Games by Student Blogger: Lia Capotorto - November 30, 2018 Attending college for theatre has taught me it's okay and necessary to make mistakes. BWW Blog: The Education of Theatre Scholarship by Student Blogger: Ellen Powers - November 29, 2018 Hi everyone! Welcome back to my college student blog! Now that my time with Muhlenberg's production of Brigadoon is, unfortunately, over, I have been able to take even more time to focus on my academics for the semester. BWW Blog: Construction, Careers, and Change by Student Blogger: Selena Newton - November 28, 2018 Thanksgiving break is over and just like that it's finals season! The break before finals is always like a taste of winter break. You don't realize how much you needed the rest until it's snatched away from you until Christmas. I didn't necessarily come back from break rested and recharged, but I did come back ready to work. The day I came back was the first time I had visited all of the campus buildings in one day! BWW Blog: Another Blog More with Christina by Student Blogger: Christina Samanie - November 27, 2018 Welcome to my very first BroadwayWorld Blog! I am so excited to be joining this team. BWW Blog: CRACKER BOX by Gary C. Walter, A Staged Reading by Guest Blogger: Sarah Osman - November 26, 2018 On Saturday, November 10th I had the pleasure of working with a theatre company that is so near and dear to my heart. It had been some time since I've last worked with La Strada Ensemble Theater and I felt my heart flutter as I walked into the Jersey Shore Arts Center to a group of lovely, talented, and inspiring people. It was a day full of performances for La Strada as they had a program of original one acts, Happenstance at 2PM and 8PM with the reading of 'Cracker Box' by Gary C. Walter between shows at 4PM. BWW Blog: I Can't, I Have Rehearsal by Student Blogger: Kate Klika - November 23, 2018 Every person who has done theater can relate to the feeling of having to say "I'm sorry, I'm busy, I have rehearsal!" or "I can't, I have a show." While musical theater can have extreme demands on your time in your life before college, once you are pursuing it as a major it can feel like that is all your life is, especially if you attend a conservatory or a conservatory style program. BWW Blog: WICKED Talks Back by Student Blogger: Kristen Kelly - November 21, 2018 Hi guys! Welcome back to my final rundown of Broadway Talks Back for the year. We were so lucky to host Catherine Charlebois this past weekend! She is best known for playing Nessarose in Wicked on Broadway and on tour. Catherine is originally from the Charlottesville area, so she was visiting town to see her family while spending some time with us as well. It was also the 1-year anniversary of our first Broadway Talks Back event, which featured Waitress star Drew Gehling! BWW Blog: Happy Thanksgiving! On Break? Come Visit Pace! by Student Blogger: Selena Newton - November 21, 2018 I just registered for my upper sophomore classes. I didn't realize how fast everything is going! I remember being a senior in high school and applying to all the schools I had on my list. Pace was my top choice and now I'm almost halfway through with my college career. The time goes by really fast. If you're in New York City for any of the holiday festivities or if you're just here doing tourist things, come visit Pace and see if the school is right for you! BWW Blog: Life with Wiggy- Time Management by Student Blogger: Joshua Wiggins - November 20, 2018 Majoring in theatre at your university is a balancing act. It's similar to being a juggler while walking on a tightrope; you're trying to keep so much in the air without dropping anything, meanwhile you're trying to not fall on the ground. You, a singular person, are asked to be an academic, full time artist, being yourself whatever what entails (social life, gym rat, video game fanatic, etc….), and you might be working or interning somewhere BWW Blog: A Quality Education at a Quality School by Student Blog: Christopher Lindquist - November 19, 2018 Wherever you go for college, you are always going to face obstacles. This statement is a given. You will always have a midterm that you are trying to cram some final study time for, or a paper that you forgot was due so you have to write it the day before. You have to figure out when and where to grab food between classes, and not to mention the struggle to find cheap textbooks that aren't destroyed. This is the same situation for a student at a community college. |
