BWW Blog: Stitching Together A New Skill by Student Blogger: Madeline Oldham - December 4, 2018 The more time I spend in college, especially as a Drama Major, I find myself really living by the first rule of improv: "Yes, And." This semester has been full of opportunities where I've agreed to do it something on a whim and had to figure out the logistics later on. It keeps the thrill of performance alive since it throws me into the thick of research and preparation that I love so much. The nervous-excited feeling in my stomach when trying something new in the world of Drama has become one that I now crave and chase. BWW Blog: How Did I Survive and Stay Awake and Sane by Student Blogger: Lea Passione - December 3, 2018 Hello people of Broadwayworld! Lea here. Sleepy and tired with no coffee (I don't drink coffee which most college students have as a necessity. I don't drink it but I'm in need of a sugar rush). Hope you guys had a great and safe Halloween. I will show you my Halloween costume at the end. Hint: Obviously, its Broadway related. BWW Blog: It's Not All Fun and (Theatre) Games by Student Blogger: Lia Capotorto - November 30, 2018 Attending college for theatre has taught me it's okay and necessary to make mistakes. BWW Blog: The Education of Theatre Scholarship by Student Blogger: Ellen Powers - November 29, 2018 Hi everyone! Welcome back to my college student blog! Now that my time with Muhlenberg's production of Brigadoon is, unfortunately, over, I have been able to take even more time to focus on my academics for the semester. BWW Blog: Construction, Careers, and Change by Student Blogger: Selena Newton - November 28, 2018 Thanksgiving break is over and just like that it's finals season! The break before finals is always like a taste of winter break. You don't realize how much you needed the rest until it's snatched away from you until Christmas. I didn't necessarily come back from break rested and recharged, but I did come back ready to work. The day I came back was the first time I had visited all of the campus buildings in one day! BWW Blog: Another Blog More with Christina by Student Blogger: Christina Samanie - November 27, 2018 Welcome to my very first BroadwayWorld Blog! I am so excited to be joining this team. BWW Blog: CRACKER BOX by Gary C. Walter, A Staged Reading by Guest Blogger: Sarah Osman - November 26, 2018 On Saturday, November 10th I had the pleasure of working with a theatre company that is so near and dear to my heart. It had been some time since I've last worked with La Strada Ensemble Theater and I felt my heart flutter as I walked into the Jersey Shore Arts Center to a group of lovely, talented, and inspiring people. It was a day full of performances for La Strada as they had a program of original one acts, Happenstance at 2PM and 8PM with the reading of 'Cracker Box' by Gary C. Walter between shows at 4PM. BWW Blog: I Can't, I Have Rehearsal by Student Blogger: Kate Klika - November 23, 2018 Every person who has done theater can relate to the feeling of having to say "I'm sorry, I'm busy, I have rehearsal!" or "I can't, I have a show." While musical theater can have extreme demands on your time in your life before college, once you are pursuing it as a major it can feel like that is all your life is, especially if you attend a conservatory or a conservatory style program. BWW Blog: WICKED Talks Back by Student Blogger: Kristen Kelly - November 21, 2018 Hi guys! Welcome back to my final rundown of Broadway Talks Back for the year. We were so lucky to host Catherine Charlebois this past weekend! She is best known for playing Nessarose in Wicked on Broadway and on tour. Catherine is originally from the Charlottesville area, so she was visiting town to see her family while spending some time with us as well. It was also the 1-year anniversary of our first Broadway Talks Back event, which featured Waitress star Drew Gehling! BWW Blog: Happy Thanksgiving! On Break? Come Visit Pace! by Student Blogger: Selena Newton - November 21, 2018 I just registered for my upper sophomore classes. I didn't realize how fast everything is going! I remember being a senior in high school and applying to all the schools I had on my list. Pace was my top choice and now I'm almost halfway through with my college career. The time goes by really fast. If you're in New York City for any of the holiday festivities or if you're just here doing tourist things, come visit Pace and see if the school is right for you! BWW Blog: Life with Wiggy- Time Management by Student Blogger: Joshua Wiggins - November 20, 2018 Majoring in theatre at your university is a balancing act. It's similar to being a juggler while walking on a tightrope; you're trying to keep so much in the air without dropping anything, meanwhile you're trying to not fall on the ground. You, a singular person, are asked to be an academic, full time artist, being yourself whatever what entails (social life, gym rat, video game fanatic, etc….), and you might be working or interning somewhere BWW Blog: A Quality Education at a Quality School by Student Blog: Christopher Lindquist - November 19, 2018 Wherever you go for college, you are always going to face obstacles. This statement is a given. You will always have a midterm that you are trying to cram some final study time for, or a paper that you forgot was due so you have to write it the day before. You have to figure out when and where to grab food between classes, and not to mention the struggle to find cheap textbooks that aren't destroyed. This is the same situation for a student at a community college. BWW Blog: A Little Fish in a Big Broadway Pond by Student Blogger: Madeline Oldham - November 19, 2018 As Drama majors, we are constantly looking ahead towards our professional futures. Every holiday has at least one cynical relative asking, "What are we going to do in the real world?" and, "When are we going to be on Broadway?" Whether that voice is from a family member or in your own head, we always seem to be clouded with thoughts of resumes and in search of a volunteer or performance opportunity to diversify our credits. BWW Blog: Performance from a New Perspective by Student Blogger: Diana Witt - November 15, 2018 Throughout my theatre, music, and dance training, I have constantly had to adapt to new teachers and their own unique styles. While it can be quite a challenge, it is a useful exercise in adaptability, a transferrable skill for the professional world. Viewing your work through different lenses gives greater perspective on the art. BWW Blog: 'You're Majoring in What?' by Student Blogger: Kate Klika - November 15, 2018 When making the decision to major in musical theatre (or any artistic area) in college, the range of responses from friends, family, and even people you may not know very well can range in terms of support. BWW Blog: A Day in the Life of a Directing Major by Student Blogger: Samantha Hansen - November 14, 2018 As a theatre major, your weeks are pretty unique from one to the next. Besides classes, there are rehearsals, performances, production work, and college life in general with which to be concerned. Sometimes, those things overlap and the week gets hectic. But what might it look like to be a sophomore directing major? BWW Blog: Pace Goes To THE PROM! by Student Blogger: Selena Newton - November 14, 2018 One of the perks of going to Pace University is discount Broadway tickets. For each month of the semester, there is a show offered for $30. For November, the show was The Prom. It's a great for students that are new to the city since they're able to experience a show at an affordable price. I go see shows as much as I can, so I'm grateful Pace is able to offer us discounted tickets. BWW Blog: Finding the Right College Theatre Program for You by Student Blogger: Lia Capotorto - November 13, 2018 It's that time of year when every high school senior and aspiring transfer student is making their final decisions about where to apply. Choosing a college can be a daunting process and it can be very difficult to know if you are making the right choice, so here are some things I've learned along the way and how I ultimately picked my school. BWW Blog: I am NOT Part of the Starving Class by Student Blog: Christopher Lindquist - November 12, 2018 Dear readers of BroadwayWorld, my name is Christopher Lindquist and I am so excited to be a student blogger for BroadwayWorld! I am a current theatre major at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. I can't wait to shed some light on my life at a community college, life as a theatre major, and the transfer process. BWW Blog: Journeying Into BRIGADOON as an Assistant Director by Student Blogger: Ellen Powers - November 12, 2018 Hello everyone and welcome to my first blog with BroadwayWorld! I am so excited to be giving you an inside look into my life as a college student studying theatre! BWW Blog: Thrown into the Deep End- My First Collegiate Stage Management Experience by Student Blogger: Samantha Hansen - November 9, 2018 Finishing up my first semester of college, I was ready for winter break and to get home to my dogs. I had just completed my first final for the day when the professor asked me to stay behind for a minute to talk to me. Cue racing heart and sweaty palms. I could barely register what he was saying because I could hear my heartbeat in my ears, but I managed to interpret, "Would you like to stage manage my show?" Since I thought I heard wrong, I repeated the question back to him. "Yes," was his response. "You mean These Shining Lives," I asked. "That's the one." BWW Blog: Why I Love WAITRESS by Student Blogger: Kristen Kelly - November 9, 2018 Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog where I bring Broadway to UVA! This week is an off week for Broadway Talks Back, but we have some amazing events coming up the next two weekends! I've gotten a lot of questions about why I love Waitress the Musical lately, and I think this is the perfect forum to explain my love for the show. BWW Blog: Silent Judgement- An Honest Analysis on Good Audience Etiquette by Student Blogger: Madeline Oldham - November 9, 2018 There seems to be a trend amongst drama students and performers of any age in having difficulties being a good audience member. The leafing through of the Playbill becomes an arena for snobbish comments about past credits and how he/she, for one reason or another, are fit for a different role in a different play. BWW Blog: What I Wish I Had Known During My College Audition Process by Student Blogger: Sierra Lancaster - November 8, 2018 Hello everyone! My name is Sierra Lancaster, and I am a freshman B.F.A. Musical Theatre student at Boston Conservatory at Berklee. I am so excited to begin this journey as a BroadwayWorld student blogger! BWW Blog: Not Just HAMILTON- An Ode to BRING IT ON: THE MUSICAL by Student Blogger: Diana Witt - November 8, 2018 Lin-Manuel Miranda has certainly become a household name over the past few years. Garnering countless accolades for his work as a composer, writer, and performer, Miranda is not only one of my biggest inspirations, but a genius innovator in the theatre community. |
