2025 AWARDS SEASON

Broadway's biggest night is back in a big way in 2022! The Tony Awards, Broadway's most beloved tradition, returns this June, honoring theater professionals for distinguished achievement in the 2021/2022 Broadway season. What can you expect this time around? We've got the scoop!

The Drama League has announced the 2022 Special Recognition Honorees of The 88th Annual Drama League Awards: Lileana Blain-Cruz (The Skin of Our Teeth), Billy Crystal (Mr. Saturday Night), Hugh Jackman (The Music Man), and Willette Murphy Klausner (Hadestown).

The 75th Annual Tony Awards will return to the legendary Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday, June 12th, in a four-hour television and streaming event that will be broadcast live coast to coast for the first time. Dates for nomination eligibility and the nominations announcement have also been announced.

The Manhattan Association of Cabarets has announced the 2022 MAC Award nominees. The nominees were determined by votes cast by the active MAC membership, except for the song and recording categories, which were determined by special committees.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ariana DeBose, Andrew Garfield, and Stephanie Beatriz were awarded at last night's Hollywood Critics Association Awards. Presenters included Robin de Jesús, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Brian d'Arcy James, Alexandra Shipp, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Marlee Matlin, Kaitlyn Dever, and more.

The Hamilton trio will reunite to open the ceremony, which is set to air on TNT and TBS. The SAG Awards have previously featured openers for the top of the telecast rather than hosts. Eugene and David Levy opened the 2020 broadcast.

Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes, and Regina Hall have been announced as the hosts of the 94th Oscars. The news will be officially announced on Good Morning America tomorrow, February 15. Nominees include Ariana DeBose, Andrew Garfield, West Side Story, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Encanto, Cyrano, Judi Dench, and more.

The Audio Publishers Association (APA) have announced finalists for the 2022 Audie Awards. Finalists include Cynthia Erivo for Best Female Narrator and Lin-Manuel Miranda for Best Male Narrator. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts have announced the nominees for the 2022 BAFTA Film Awards. West Side Story scored five nominations, including nods for Ariana DeBose and Mike Faist. Just before his Broadway run in Mr. Saturday Night kicks off, Billy Crystal will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 27th annual Critics Choice Awards. Lin-Manuel Miranda has been nominated for Outstanding Achievement of a First-Time Feature Film Director for his directorial debut with the Netflix film adaption of tick, tick...BOOM! Steven Spielberg has been nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film for his work directing West Side Story.

The American Theatre Wing has announced details for the 66th Annual Obie Awards, celebrating and honoring Off- and Off-Off-Broadway. For the first time, streaming virtual productions will be eligible for nomination due to COVID-19.

Oscar, Tony, Grammy and two-time Emmy winner Rita Moreno’s career began with her Broadway debut at age 13. Most recently, Moreno co-stars and is an Executive Producer of the Steven Spielberg remake of the classic, West Side Story, which released worldwide this past December. Moreno won an Oscar for her performance as Anita in the original film.

BroadwayWorld has learned that Tony voters will be required to complete unconscious bias training beginning this season. Members of the Tony Awards voting committee will take a free, online training session, led by inclusion strategist Vernā Myers, which will teach them how to identify unconscious or implicit bias in their decision-making processes and how to correct it.

Today, the full list of nominees for the “53rd NAACP Image Awards” were announced. Nominees included Ariana DeBose, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Encanto, Cynthia Erivo, Audra McDonald, Respect, Taraji P. Belfast stars Caitríona Balfe and Jamie Dornan, CODA's Emilia Jones and Troy Kotsur, Red Rocket star Simon Rex, Licorice Pizza’s Alana Haim and King Richard standout Saniyya Sidney will also receive the honor at this year's film festival. The group of recipients will also participate in a discussion hosted by Dave Karger.

All guests will be masked and socially distanced at all times while inside the ballroom and there will be no red carpet. West Side Story is nominated for four awards, including Best Picture, Rachel Zegler, Ariana DeBose, and Steven Spielberg. Other nominees this year include Andrew Garfield, Peter Dinklage, Cyrano, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and more.

The shortlists for Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, International Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Score, Original Song, Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, Sound and Visual Effects have been announced. Candidates include Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jennifer Hudson, Carole King, Dear Evan Hansen, Idina Menzel, and more.

West Side Story leads the nominations with 11 nods. Other nominees include Denzel Washington, Andrew Garfield, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Peter Dinklage, Aaron Sorkin, Lady Gaga, Jessica Chastain, Nicole Kidman, and more.

Films such as West Side Story, tick, tick...BOOM!, Cyrano, Encanto, and In the Heights were recognized this morning by the Hollywood Foreign Press. Lady Gaga won an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2019 for 'Shallow' from A Star is Born. Previous winners of the Icon Award have included Glenn Close, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, and more. It was previously announced that Andrew Garfield would receive the festival's Achievement Award for his performance in tick, tick...BOOM!

 The Tony Awards Administration Committee met yesterday to confirm the eligibility status of 12 Broadway productions for the 2021-2022 season.  This was the first time the Tony Awards Administration Committee met to decide the eligibility for the 75th Annual Tony Awards. The Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.
