Hey friends! It’s back to school time! I’m halfway through my first week back at school and things are already starting to pick up. I wanted to talk a little bit about what my semester looks like, my classes, and other fun things I’m up to in my penultimate semester of undergrad!

First, I’ll start off with my classes! This semester I am in 6 classes. My first class is Acting for TV and Film, which is an acting class that focuses on acting for the camera and getting comfortable on camera and on the screen. We are gonna work through different film and tv scenes throughout the semester and I’m really looking forward to it. My next class after that is senior portfolio which is a class that all seniors are required to take and it gets us ready for what life is going to be like after we graduate. We talk about the business side of being an actor and what steps to take once we’ve graduated to get our career going. I’m very excited for this class, we’ve only had two classes and I’ve already learned so much and it has changed my perspective about a lot of things. Next I have musical theater performance where throughout the semester we work on acting through songs and focus more on the storytelling aspect of musical theater pieces. We get to do soliloquies and duets and It’s going to be a lot of fun. The class basically combines acting class and voice lessons into one class. After that I have Dance for TV and Film, where I get to learn more about what dance looks like on screen and how to dance for a camera and make more mindful choices about what to include in a dance reel. I have never really thought about dancing on camera and all that goes into that, so I’m excited to learn more about it. Next, I have my accents and dialects class where we are going to learn about how to do the most common accents/dialects that actors should know. I’m really looking forward to learning about other accents and dialects and how to do them. Last but not least, voice lessons. I love my voice lessons. It’s just an hour that I get to sing and have fun and I often find it very therapeutic. That’s what my semester looks like academically!

Looking more on the extracurricular side of things, I am the president of Alpha Psi Omega, a national theater honors society on campus. I love this organization so much, it has been a joy to be a part of it over the past two years, and I’m excited to see what this year holds. I am also in two cabarets with our on-campus student producing organization, Brick Road Productions. I am in Brick Road Sings Olivia Rodrigo and Brick Road Sings Lizzy McAlpine. I love both of those artists so much and am super excited to jump into those. I’m also assistant directing our conservatory’s production of She Kills Monsters! I love this play and I know I’m gonna have a blast getting to work on it. I also get to write a few more short plays for two nights of completely student-done one-acts, Roulette and Holiplay. They are the ones I did last year and I absolutely cannot wait for those either. I’m also the co-artistic director for Holiplay which makes my heart so happy. I love new work and I love getting to be involved in new work. It is and always will be one of my favorite things.

That’s my semester so far! I’ve got a lot going on, (big shock) but I wouldn’t want it any other way. I can’t wait to see what this semester holds. It’s going to be a great one! Happy last year of school! I hope you all have a great semester, and as always, go do great things!
