A JEW GROWS IN BROOKLYN is the story of a baby boomer, the son of survivors who grew up in 1960’s Brooklyn and wanted nothing more than to be American. Along the way, Ehrenreich, backed by a trio of musician/singers, performs the popular music of both his and his parent’s more...
generations, and demonstrates, from adolescence in Brooklyn, to the classic Catskills, how survivors learn to laugh again. With the help of a visual multi-media set, he weaves philosophy into personal history as he recreates his journey from denial to acceptance to rebirth.
After over 2,000 performances, including 18 months Off Broadway and a National Tour of over 25 cities, the show has spawned a full-length book version, A JEW GROWS IN BROOKLYN: The Curious Reflections of a First Generation American. Published by Health Communications Inc. (the company made famous by the best-selling Chicken Soup for the Soul series of books), Ehrenreich has adapted his stage show into a compilation of essays that Publisher’s Weekly calls “Inspirational and entertaining throughout.”
Please note A JEW GROWS IN BROOKLYN will go on hiatus beginning Thursday, August 16th and will resume performances on Thursday, October 11th, 2012.
